Patriots, Rob Ninkovich agree to contract extension through 2016

The Patriots will reportedly extend the contract of one of their defensive starters.

According to Mike Reiss of, the Patriots have reached a contract extension with starting left defensive end Rob Ninkovich that will run through the 2016 season.

Ninkovich, 29, has started 35 consecutive regular-season games for New England dating back to 2010. He has notched 14 tackles in the first two games of 2013.

An eighth-year pro from Purdue, Ninkovich has notched 237 tackles and 19.5 sacks in regular-season play.

    He was an undrafted free agent, and may be the best all around defensive player on the roster. A defense that is chock full of 1st and 2nd round picks.Makes you go hmmm, on the drafting there in NE.

    He wasn’t an udfa, 5th round pick for New Orleans in 06.

    Rob was Drafted by the New Orleans Saints in the 5th Round in 2006.

    Ninkovich was released by NOrleans twice, as well as Miami. The second time, NO tried to make him a long snapper. Good player, nice story, although I don’t agree he compares to Vrabel. Vrabel was one of the best FA signings of all time, right up there with Harrison, Moss and Dillon.
