Ravens drop Texans 30-9, both teams 2-1

Houston Texans v Baltimore Ravens Getty Images

The Texans didn’t look like a team that walked in the door undefeated, and they walked out with plenty of questions.

Quarterback Matt Schaub frankly squandered an early lead and a solid defensive stand by his guys, and his interception which was returned for a touchdown was the spark that allowed the Ravens back into the game for a 30-9 win.

Schaub’s bigger problem at the moment is the health of wide receiver Andre Johnson, who limped off the field and wasn’t productive when he was there, with five catches for 36 yards.

The Ravens took advantage of Daryl Smith’s interception return, and an 82-yard punt return touchdown by Tandon Doss on a day when their own offense was lackluster. They clearly missed the injured Ray Rice (hip flexor), as Bernard Pierce was limited to 65 yards on 24 attempts.

    When you get blown out by the Ravens, you know you have not only a pathetic team, but a pathetic franchise.

  2. 8to80texansblog says: Sep 22, 2013 4:18 PM

    The back to back pick 6 and PR for TD won this game.

    That and the combination of Balitmore’s D and out inept O line….

    Congrats on a good win to the Ravens.

    We crushed them last year and they won the SB so maybe we can return the favor this year.

    Congrats to the Ravens. Certainly didn’t expect this game to be so lopsided.

    Dallas Clark had a nice day too. The Ravens still don’t look very good to me, but September and October are just so you’re playing November and December games that matter. Who cares what the wins look like right now. Doesn’t look like winning the AFC North is going to take more than 10 wins.

  6. claymatthewshairplugs says: Sep 22, 2013 4:26 PM

    Matt Schaub is garbage. Houston’s going nowhere as long as he is the starter

  7. ahostiletakeover says: Sep 22, 2013 4:27 PM

    It wasn’t because Rice was out the run game was hurting. Through three weeks I’d be surprised if the run game was averaging much more than 2 yards a carry, its been an absolutely pathetic job run blocking by the entire Ravens o-line all three games. What is even more disappointing about that is the continuity on what was a good o-line last year (one new starter and he was the backup center last year) and the prescence of a “run game coordinator” in a respected o-line coach Castillo. Something needs to happen because the Ravens offense is built for balance. Apart from that a great win, defensive chemistry still improving but they are getting better every week. Good luck to Houston the rest of the year, they’ll bounce back no question.

  8. ahostiletakeover says: Sep 22, 2013 4:33 PM

    Just to add to what I said, the Ravens have faced 3 talented front sevens to aid their run game woes (Houston still easily a top 10 unit there overall and Cleveland’s guys are often underrated too) but it really has been that dismal. Take away Pierce’s 25 yd run (which is by far their best run in 3 games) and the average per carry would be even worse. O-line and their two two coaches have to step up big time or my Ravens wont get too far for the long haul this season.

    Yes, led by Flacco’s whopping 53 yards at halftime, the Ravens stormed to a 17-9 lead. Rice out, and nobody to carry the load for Joe? No problem, up steps the defense and special teams to score when Joe can’t!

    And once again, Joe escapes being exposed for doing nothing for most of the game.

    I don’t know if they keep stats for this, but has a team ever scored more points overall with a quarterback accounting for so few of them? I think the Ravens have set the record.

  12. edgarcaetano says: Sep 22, 2013 4:42 PM

    Weren’t the Ravens supposed to be blown out of this game???

    I saw the experts on NFL Network say so this morning….

  13. steelerrick says: Sep 22, 2013 4:43 PM

    Is it just me or do the Texans look the like the 70′s Oilers? A ton of talent, but just get the job done; a good rusher, good defense, but an average QB?

  14. pleasefirecam says: Sep 22, 2013 4:48 PM

    Two weeks in a row this defense has kept opponents out of the endzone. Will be nice to have Canty, Brown and Rice back next week. This team will be in the playoff race, no doubt about it. Great game and what a way to celebrate #52 going into the Ring of Honor

  15. uscoach says: Sep 22, 2013 4:52 PM

    Flacco does we has to do. Ravens win 30-9. Lots of clock-eating 1-2 yard runs with key third down completions during quarter 2 and 3 (Ravens only ran 6 offensive plays in the first quarter!).

    People hate on Flacco, and many are biased….but the guys threw 11 TDs to Zero interceptions to win the Playoffs/Super Bowl last year. Keep talking, people!

    Wearethesteelers is the new ‘logicalvoicessay’. What happened to “38 – 3″, WATS? I know, Roger Goodell is secretly a Mexican and is still seething over Texas independence. All the officials are Latinos in disguise.
    The Ravens defense hasn’t given up a TD in 8 quarters and is still averaging 2.3 TDs per game. Maybe they can lower it to 1.75 next week.

  21. vincentbojackson says: Sep 22, 2013 5:10 PM

    Yes, Joemontanaflacco dude has been exposed. Too bad the real Joe Flacco always escapes that fate. Flacco SHOULD be exposed for doing nothing and the team winning in spite of him. The headlines SHOULD be reading “Flacco puts up laughable 53 yards in first half as Ravens get dominated.” But thanks to the defense and special teams stepping up to do the scoring, the Ravens win and Flacco escapes all blame.

    Now I see why Flacco makes the big money…

    Another Ravens win, another escape from being exposed for doing nothing by Joe Flacco.

    LOL so many upset fantasy football players in this thread! Flacco has only 1 receiver he has any history/chemistry with, several rethreads that have been dropped from other teams and an undrafted rookie. Flacco will never be a fantasy blockbuster QB, but he’ll continue to win games and make all of you losers mad ROFL.

    This defense will be one of the best in the league by seasons end. The offense is a work in progress but the parts are there….they’ll get better each week. By the December this team will be one tough out.

  34. dickjagger says: Sep 22, 2013 6:41 PM

    So what Flacco doesn’t put up Manning numbers! He was converting on third down the whole second half! Still had many new face’s (and drops) yet delivers when it counts. Everyone saw him tear up some tough teams/players last year yet people still give more credit to guys who have done nothing (Ryan,RG3, Freaking Romo!) Flacco wins when it counts. All those regular season stats are great and all (Manning, Marino) but what does OT matter if you can’t grasp the Lombardi trophy?

    ~~~~~~~~~~~
    Why such hate for Flacco? They won 30-9? What would you have wanted him to do, make it 60-9? Who is your team anyway?
    The run game couldn’t get started so if you actually watched the game you would have noticed the play calling in the second half was heavier passing to move the chains. They tried taking the top off by throwing to Smith to start the run game but it didn’t work. Then they reverted to short passes to eat up the clock.
  49. scoobies05 says: Sep 23, 2013 4:17 PM
