The Lions lost defensive end Jason Jones for the season to a torn left patella tendon on Sunday, opening up a spot on their roster and on the depth chart at defensive line.

They’ll fill both those spots by welcoming defensive lineman Andre Fluellen back to the team. Fluellen’s agent Jerome Colton tweeted out the news that Fluellen was heading to Detroit for his fourth tour of duty with the Lions.

Fluellen spent a little more than a month with the team this summer before being cut at the end of preseason. He started his career with Detroit as a third-round pick in 2008 and played for them until being cut before the 2012 season. He played a couple of games with the Dolphins before winding up back with the Lions at the end of the season. Fluellen then spent a month of the offseason with the Bears before being released.

Over all those stops, Fluellen has picked up 52 tackles, 2.5 sacks and a thorough knowledge of the Lions defense. That likely appealed to the Lions, who will be giving rookie Devin Taylor the first shot at stepping into the role vacated by Jones.
