Anthony Spencer will have season-ending surgery

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said Tuesday morning that defensive end Anthony Spencer needed to have another surgery on his knee and would likely miss the rest of the season as a result.

There’s no more likely about it. Spencer’s agent Jordan Woy has announced that Spencer will have surgery that brings his season to an end after playing in just one game. Spencer, who had knee surgery this summer that kept him out of the preseason.  said last week that he didn’t think he needed to have a microfracture procedure on his knee, which is what Jones said he needed,  and Woy didn’t specify the type of surgery, but the immediate result for Spencer is the same regardless of what kind of surgery will be performed.

It’s an inopportune time for Spencer to go on the shelf as he’s playing out this year on the franchise tag and will head into free agency with a major question mark about his effectiveness in the future. Woy says that doctors have told Spencer that he will be 100 percent in January or February of next year. Even if that’s the case, Spencer will be 30 and looking for work after a lost season.

George Selvie has seen the majority of the time in place of Spencer at defensive end and it’s a good bet the Cowboys will look to bolster the position further when they fill Spencer’s roster spot in the coming days.

It’s inopportune for Spencer sure. It is also inopportune for the $10.6M they sunk into him this year. Wish I could get me almost $1M per play that he put out there this year.

We tried not to laugh, but couldn’t help it.

If I was a Pittsburgh fan sitting at 0-3 getting outplayed every week, I guess I would laugh too. We will laugh for you when you are sitting at home watching the playoffs on TV with all the talking head pundits questioning the age of BR and Tomlin’s decision making as a coach–yeah, that’s gonna be real funny–but not nearly as funny as when you get spanked by the Browns…..

We tried not to laugh at the Stealers but we did anyway. 0-3 and we beat your ass last year too!

Also, The Steelers hired Todd Haley. This just goes to show the widespread dysfunction of the team in Pittsburgh is more than 3 weeks old. Cowboys fans are stuck with Jerry Jones, but at least they aren’t sitting at 0-3.

    ‘wearethesteelers’…what a tool, and I’m a Steelers fan.
    Laughing at a player’s injury…that’s really cool.
Ashamed that my team is represented by idiots like you.

Spencer for 10 million or Selvie who has played well for less than a million. Even Jerry can do that math. See ya Spencer.

If the Cowboys don’t win the NFC East is their pun damn fault.

    @ wearethesteelers

You laugh at a team that has an injured player that has season ending surgery. Wow is all I can say. But even without Spencer we r sitting alone at the top of the division, and where do the Steelers sit… At the bottom of the division at 0-3. He who laughs last laughs best… GO COWBOYS!!!
