Lions lose Nate Burleson to broken arm

The Lions will be without a key cog in their passing game, after an early morning car accident.

According to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press, Nate Burleson broke his arm in two places and will need surgery today.

He was involved in a single-car accident after watching last night’s game with teammates, and according to Birkett, no alcohol was involved.

Burleson was leading the Lions in receptions this year, and was coming off a six-catch, 116-yard game against the Redskins.

It is clear that the football Gods do not want Detroit to prosper. WR depth is not a strength of the Lions.

Calling the Browns for Josh Gordon?

  3. chiadam says: Sep 24, 2013 9:26 AM

    Rub some dirt on it.

Was Suh a passenger in the car? Hmmmm……..

  6. sgtdiver says: Sep 24, 2013 9:29 AM

For one week I had no worries about our WR core. If we’re not cursed, we are the most unlucky team in the history of sports. Time to ship Leshoure for a WR…

  7. marjorine1 says: Sep 24, 2013 9:31 AM

And so it begins for the Lions. Whether they cause the issue or the issue is caused by acts of God, they are screwed.

  8. lionsmark09 says: Sep 24, 2013 9:32 AM

I tell you. There is a conspiracy against the Lions winning. (Kidding). But seriously, this is getting silly.

Somebody out there really hates us. Hope for a speedy recovery though.

Tough break. He’s a good guy and was having a good year.

Please tell me Suh was NOT driving……

Big blow…he was playing really good….Lions need to go get a WR

  12. ridingwithnohandlebars says: Sep 24, 2013 9:42 AM

At least he didn’t break both legs.

Glad it was not more serious and hope he has a speedy recovery.

Awful news. Get well Nate and you will be greatly missed..

  14. docsweeney says: Sep 24, 2013 9:57 AM

Injuries happen. Weird freak ones as well. It’s not Calvin Johnson. Then, you’d have an issue.

  15. jimschwartzes says: Sep 24, 2013 10:04 AM

    Watch, Hakeem Nicks to Lions.

  16. pabrownsfan says: Sep 24, 2013 10:10 AM

I feel for you guys. I’m a browns fan.

  17. scoregasmic says: Sep 24, 2013 10:14 AM

You could argue this is just a big a loss as if it were Calvin. Obviously not talent wise, but bureleson is a leader on the field and off it, and the wide receiving core is at it’s best when he’s in the game

  18. lionsfan41582 says: Sep 24, 2013 10:17 AM

calling browns. leshore and 2nd round pick for gordon

    Bring Matt Willis back!

  20. hatesycophants says: Sep 24, 2013 10:21 AM

Let’s not turn into whining Packers fans.

Chicago doesn’t care who’s missing from our receivers.

    Speedy recovery, Burleson.

  21. packersarethebest says: Sep 24, 2013 10:34 AM

Wow that sucks! Class act guy who was injured last year as well. Even though I’m a Packers fan, I wish him a Speedy recovery.

  22. jimschwartzes says: Sep 24, 2013 10:52 AM

I’m thinking Josh Gordon (but price tag may be too high); Hakeem Nicks; Braylon Edwards; John Baldwin; maybe Brandon Gibson.

  23. leapyrman says: Sep 24, 2013 10:54 AM

Ok Ryan Broyles, here is your chance.

  24. godofwine330 says: Sep 24, 2013 10:55 AM

Damn, man. My brother was just bragging about having him on his roster last night. Bad break, and on a car accident with no alcohol involved (at least there is that). Lions can’t catch a break…but they aren’t getting Josh Gordon, that’s for sure. Maybe for a 1st round pick.

    - signed, Joe Banner

Do the Browns have any available receivers for trade?

  27. ike1973 says: Sep 24, 2013 11:07 AM

All for a slice of pizza :-(

  28. audioflint says: Sep 24, 2013 11:25 AM

How’s Anquan Boldin for a 6th rounder sounding now?

  29. drulz29 says: Sep 24, 2013 11:38 AM

Trade Leshoure?? What makes Lion fans feel that he has any trade value whatsoever???

No, youll be signing the likes of Devin Aromashadu or Braylon Edwards.

Cleveland would actually want VALUE not another player in a long list of Detroit Lion Busts..

  32. lyinzphan says: Sep 24, 2013 12:15 PM

His wife might buy his story, but I remain mildly skeptical that Nate was stone cold sober, had the munchies at 2:35 a.m., and found piping hot pizzas in Farmington Hills.

  33. jimthebuilder27 says: Sep 24, 2013 12:35 PM

I almost signed him to my fantasy team(s) last night.

    Thank God I didn’t.

    ——————————-

It was reported that the Colts only decided to trade for Trent Richardson after the Lions refused to trade LeShoure.

Not sure why the Lions wouldn’t trade him but he does have value to at least one other team.

  37. myeaglescantwin says: Sep 24, 2013 2:22 PM

i thought broyles also was injured earlier this season

  38. athwartships says: Sep 24, 2013 2:29 PM

Real shame….Have always liked Nate and I thought things looked good for the Lions this year…interesting to see how this effects them.

  39. audient says: Sep 24, 2013 2:56 PM

Browns fan here. Sorry to see this happen to your team. Not sorry enough to give up Josh Gordon, but sorry.

Lions v. Browns is still my dream Super Bowl.

WHATS WITH ALL THE GOOD WILL?
This is football NOT tennis. when a player gets hurt IN THE GAME thats part of it. injuries have always been a part of football from High school all the way to the NFL. MY POINT IS
dont let Goodell destroy the game with all this good will and we dont want anybody to get hurt crap. the players get paid to get hurt and we dont want to watch QB’s and WR’s play catch. we wanna see hard hits and great tackles WE WANNA SEE DEFENSE

Burleson (who this article is about) broke his arm in a car accident last night, not in a game.

Nothing good happens after midnight. Seriously. 2:00am and hankering for some pizza? Try delivery. I think you can afford it.

  43. bbk1000 says: Sep 24, 2013 4:59 PM

An accident trying to save a pizza from falling off the front seat??? What an idiot….He could have killed someone…..

Add no pizza in the unoccupied front seat of a vehicle while in motion….
