Cardinals safety Rashad Johnson isn’t sure what the big deal is, but he knows you’re curious.
So after losing the tip of his left middle finger in Sunday’s loss to the Saints, and becoming a bit of a phenomenon, Johnson decided to share his new deformity.
Johnson tweeted out photos of the injury, and if it’s too soon after breakfast for you, you might want to skip it. Otherwise, you’ve probably seen worse on basic cable this week.
Johnson told Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic that missing part of a middle finger wouldn’t really impact him, as he can use his thumbs to play video games, and the missing digit “probably wouldn’t have been used for anything good anyway.”
“It was the same length as my index finger,” Johnson said. “It was pretty shocking to see it that way. But this type of stuff happens. Guys end up with bad biceps, bad shoulders, bad fingers. I mean, it’s just a part of the game fans don’t get an opportunity to see.
“Things like this happen and our team needs us the next Sunday. If we can play, then we gotta dress and go out there and do it. It’s our job.”
Johnson had surgery, and the primary concern is infection, but he might still play this week against the Buccaneers, earning him the respect of teammates.
“That’s nuts, especially the way the trainers were explaining the incident when he came to the sidelines,” cornerback Patrick Peterson said. “Saying his gloves were drenched in blood and it was leaking like a faucet. I can’t imagine feeling and seeing that, but he’s a trouper.”
A nine-and-a-half-fingered trouper, but a trouper nonetheless.
