Ray Lewis thinks leadership could have stopped Sweet Pea

Ray Lewis was great at stopping running backs and passes across the middle.

Apparently, he could have intercepted a champagne bottle that may or may not have been laid across the head of Jacoby Jones by a stripper named Sweet Pea on a party bus while celebrating Bryant McKinnie’s birthday.

During ESPN’s pregame show last night (via the Baltimore Sun), the former Ravens linebacker who is now paid to say things cited the leadership void created with his retirement and the departure of Ed Reed.

“We talk about the transition of losing so many guys, a guy like myself and Ed Reed and other guys that are based off leadership, I’ve said it earlier: ‘Where would the leadership come from?'” Lewis said. “Because the leadership being strong in the locker room and winning games, listen talent sometimes can win you games. But when you talk about what’s going on off the field, that’s the most important place where leadership steps up.

“When you think about the Baltimore Ravens and the transition that they went through, they’re missing leadership right now. When you have an incident like that, the first thing a leader is going to do is find some way to dissolve everything that’s going on and actually dissolve it before it comes to that type of head or even gets to that point. When you talk about the Baltimore Ravens they’re going to have to refocus and find some quick leaders in that locker room very quickly.”

Obviously, he’s right.

Nothing unfortunate ever happened off the field involving a Ravens player when he was there.

This guy murdered two people and got away with it. I think I’ll look for opinions on leadership and life in general elsewhere thanks

I think the Raiders could have signed Sweet Pea to hit Peyton Manning. I mean she did catch one of the fastest dudes in the league and busted him. That takes Talent! On a serious note Lewis is really good on MNF!

Uh, what?!?! If I get this right, he is saying that if they had true team leaders, someone would have stepped up and stopped this stripper from whacking someone on the head with a champagne bottle? Looks like Ray Ray needs to lay off the prescription meds a little, oh well, he is newly retired, they will get his dosage right.

As a Ravens fan, I call BS on that: Live Ray, but where was he when Jamal got a a drug charge or when Chris McCalister was having all his issues.

Well played, Mr. Gantt. Well played.

Bryant McSkinnie has stepped in to fill the leadership void. He’s already demonstarted that he can organize and get players to participate in cruises and bus rides.

  9. thrillomania says: Sep 24, 2013 9:23 AM

This man is delusional. I wonder where the leadership was when he helped cover up the murder of those 2 men back in early 2000. No Ray & Ravens fans, that will never go away and people will never forget, no matter how many superbowls he won.

  10. thejuddstir says: Sep 24, 2013 9:26 AM

Hey Ray-ray, it’s not rocket science, having a murderer in the locker room would keep everyone else scared straight.

  11. watermelon1 says: Sep 24, 2013 9:36 AM

Sadly… This is what harbaugh wanted.

He wanted all the vets gone and wanted to be the only voice anyone answered to.

Well, he got his wish. Good luck with that!

You can’t stop Sweet Pea..you can only hope to contain her.

  14. dg0122 says: Sep 24, 2013 10:21 AM

apparently Bryant McKinnie is the new leader

  15. purpleguy says: Sep 24, 2013 10:30 AM

I think the solution is to simply put Bryant McKinnie on a permanent home-based time-out. And after looking at pictures of the strippers on that bus, I am easily reminded to avoid certain clubs and buses in the Baltimore area.

  16. crownofthehelmet says: Sep 24, 2013 10:47 AM

Wrong, Ray. The current team leader could have taken some lessons from Sweat Pea, she hit Jones in stride with velocity and accuracy. Jones couldn’t react fast enough because he’s used to lollipops.

  17. jacobk621 says: Sep 24, 2013 11:29 AM

2 corrections are in order ,, the Jamal Lewis drug incident happened while he was in college , so that means ray Lewis couldn’t have helped Jamal because he wasn’t on the ravens yet ,, 2nd the stripper
party incident happened in wash dc not baltimore md ,,,,, I will say that Ray Lewis has no credibility when it comes to behavioral issues ,, none !!!!!!

of course if ben threw it, it would have either bounced, gone to the wrong person or he would have just dropped it. your turn

  19. scoobies05 says: Sep 24, 2013 11:41 AM

and for those of you who think ray got away with murder…do some research because you are wrong

This guy, Ray Lewis really has a high opinion of himself doesnt he?? Oh yes, please be quiet the omnipotent Ray has spoken smdh.

I guess many people on this thread don’t worry about facts and they give no credit to someone who turned his life around. Because if they did, they would know that Ray Lewis, having pleaded guilty to obstruction of justice, became an indispensible leader to the Ravens in the years since his guilty plea. But go ahead, insult him all you want since that obviously makes you feel good.

Hey jmf, don’t you constantly make disparaging comments about Big Ben’s past alleged discretions? I’d love to hear how that’s different, in your mind.

Not anymore. Not since you suggested we declare a moratorium on the Big Ben jokes. See how influential you are?

Ray gets paid to say things. Don’t take it personal. Get over it & move on. This shouldn’t even be a headline.

crown, im glad you are here. latest update is now pittsburgh is 30th in points scored. ravens are tied for 12th in fewest points allowed. and no fool…really? you slam others for making disparaging remarks but freely do it yourself because you think you are better than anyone else. if jmf is as insignificant as you say he is, than why not just ignore him and stick to football talk. someone has to be above it…why not you?

  29. crownofthehelmet says: Sep 24, 2013 2:59 PM

nofool, our passion for the Steelers makes us kindred spirits, no doubt. Seeing multiple championships has taught me an important lesson – act like you’ve been there before. Constantly bringing up a retired player’s personal issues just sounds like sour grapes, and beneath a champion. To be frank, I just don’t care about Lewis anymore, and would much rather focus my energy on insulting the current gaggle of misfits.

A little harsh in your analysis scoobies. You choose to ignore certain things and others you don’t. I suggest you look in the mirror and say I will ignore comments made about Ray…..don’t preach to me until you practice it first.

when was the last time i made any type of remark about ben? i come on here all the time and see all the ray remarks, lots of them from you. for the most part i ignore them other than to defend ray. i understand hes no saint but no one has any proof to back up what everyone claims they know he did. his case went through the legal system and the issue was closed. people dont like ray…i get that. he can be annoying. but back to the point, if you want to talk football lets talk football. if you want to hurl insults it will come back. but dont act surprised when you(and in saying you i mean everyone) talk about oh thats the ravens way and call people small minded that they retaliate. ignore it and stay on topic. hope you are well

Why would i talk trash if the ravens were 0-3? I wouldn’t have any room to talk… And i certainly wouldn’t be on other teams threads making snarky comments then get bent out of shape when i get called out. To each his own i suppose…
