Red Bryant expected to be OK after suffering back spasms

Seattle Seahawks defensive end Red Bryant left Sunday’s 45-17 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars after suffering back spasms in the third quarter.

Bryant was looked at on the sidelines before heading into the locker room for further evaluation and did not return to the game.

Head coach Pete Carroll said Bryant is sore and stiff because of the injury but didn’t seem to be too concerned about Bryant’s status on Monday.

“He’s got muscle spasms and usually those can get taken care of in about three or four days. So he should be alright,” Carroll said.

Bryant was named as the team’s defensive team captain this year and is a key cog in their base defense in stopping the run. With a trip to Houston up next and their formidable rushing attack, the Seahawks could really use Bryant in their lineup to help slow down Arian Foster.

It’s true that we would be much better off with Red Bryant in there. He’s outstanding against the run. However, if the whole defensive line is a little more aware of Foster, we’re going to be OK because we’re already coming out with the leading defense against the pass. But, yes, Bryant would be nice insurance.
