Browns quarterback Brandon Weeden is on his way back, and the guy who replaced him just got a vote of confidence.

Browns coach Rob Chudzinksi just told reporters that Weeden was set to throw this week as he returns from a thumb injury, but that he won’t play.

Chudzinski also mentioned that Brian Hoyer would, in fact, start this week, after hedging a few days ago.

Weeden didn’t get a similar endorsement when he was injured, with Chudzinski making it clear that the starting job wasn’t promised to him when he returned. And with Hoyer coming off an impressive win, it wasn’t a surprise that he hangs onto the job.

In fact, the surprising part might be if Weeden ever gets it back.
