Former Charger Paul Oliver dies at 29

The Chargers have released a statement about the death of Paul Oliver, who spent five years with the team as a safety after they drafted him the fourth round of the 2007 supplemental draft.

“Everyone in the Chargers family is sad today after hearing the news about Paul.  He was part of our family for five years.  At just 29 years old, he still had a lifetime in front of him.  Right now all of our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this most difficult time.”

No cause of death was noted by the Chargers, but Kevin Acee of U-T San Diego reports that Oliver, who he called “a good dude,” took his own life. Oliver’s family also released a statement, via Acee’s colleague Michael Gehlken.

“We appreciate all the thoughts and prayers. We request privacy in the wake of this tragic loss.”

The PFT team adds its condolences to the Oliver family.

    Depression kills.

If you need help, GET IT.

If someone you love needs it, pick up a phone before it’s too late.

Very sad. I hope this doesn’t get turned into a concussion theorist’s dream and the family can move forward without publicity. Always sad to see someone that young go, no matter the circumstances.

It doesn’t have to be a “concussion theorist’s dream” – there are conclusive tests which can be run for CTE, and hopefully that will happen.

This is so tragic. I feel sorry for this young man he must have been going through some rough times to get to the point that he feels the only way out is to take his own life. Prays go out to his family and friends.

These posts are intended to show our support for the Oliver family in their time of need. Please start another post if you want to discuss ‘concussions’ or the ‘NFL’.

It’s not easy to lose a son or a sibling, I know. Please accept our condolences and our prayers into your heart and know that Paul is resting peacefully.
