Palmer says Bucs were contacting his agent “a lot”

On Wednesday’s PFT Live, Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times said that, in the offseason, the Buccaneers considered acquiring quarterback Carson Palmer.

Later in the day, Palmer admitted that the Bucs were sniffing around.

“My agent had said that Tampa had been contacting him a lot,” Palmer said during a conference call with the Tampa Bay media.  “I would have been very excited to be there.  Their organization has a lot of good players across the board, but like I said, I’m excited and happy to be where I am.  I’m excited about our future.”

When Palmer forced his way out of Cincinnati, it was believed he prefers to play on the West Coast.  After forcing his way out of Oakland, he landed on the team closest to the West Coast that needed a quarterback.

While Palmer possibly would have arrived in Tampa as competition for Josh Freeman, that’s how Mike Glennon showed up, too.  Regardless of the labels applied, it’s now obvious that, like any head coach that lands on a team with something other than a franchise quarterback, Greg Schiano wanted his own guy.  And now Schiano has his own guy.

The challenge over the next three months and change will be to show that Sciano’s guy has enough to justify giving Schiano another season, if the losses in 2013 significantly outnumber the wins.

    Just one Palmer btw.

Brett Favre’s agent said the same thing.

Didn’t Oakland want him to take a salary cut and he refused so they then traded him for a low round pick or two to get his salary off the books? Exactly how is wanting his contract (which Oakland accepted when they traded for him), forcing oneself out?

Then a year later Palmer would have wanted a trade out of Tampa.

No way would he play for an unproven NFL coach like Schiano. There egos would have clashed big time.

So the Bucs were desperate after all!

  6. doctorrustbelt says: Sep 25, 2013 9:03 PM

Palmer would be playing with a worse O-Line (until Nicks returns) and equally thin receiving corps if he signed with Tampa Bay.

He is all about Palmer! Can’t blame him though since the owners are all about money

What a stupid move that would have been for the Bucs. A guy who throws INTs replaces a guy that throws INTs. Palmer isnt that much better than Josh these days.

If the Bucs contacted his agent last year wouldn’t that have been tampering? He was under contract.

Palmer has not been a good QB since Kimo took out his knee in the Steeler playoff game. He is not good anymore anyway.

Palmer is a sieve. Would rather have Freeman.

    Another overrated USC qb.

Looks like the Bucs dodged a bullet, there…

Maybe Schiano will work out for Tampa, but thus far he looks like a nepotistic $&@&.

    Schiano’s days are numbered

  16. malkinrulez says: Sep 25, 2013 10:05 PM

Schiano will be lucky to make it to the end of the year

Soon Schiano will return to being a mediocre college coach.

SEE: Schiano’s 68-67 record at Rutgers (28 wins – 48 losses in conference games)

With Larry Fitzgerald back at full speed, Palmer is sitting pretty. He should be able to rack up some numbers against Tampa.

  19. runhigh24 says: Sep 25, 2013 10:54 PM

Schiano is finding out fast you can’t bully well paid players at the NFL level in the same manner that you can at a nondescript college. Shocking really.

Sarkasian’s agent said all pro teams were after him too.

The tanking for teddy bridgewater competition begins! In the left corner we have Jacksonville, and in the right corner we have Tampa! Oh look, Cleveland is trying to climb in the ring as well!

  22. fordmandalay says: Sep 25, 2013 11:39 PM

Schiano will be lucky to make it to the end of the week.

  23. mickvv says: Sep 25, 2013 11:43 PM

Wherever he’s at, Palmer isn’t making that place better.

  24. clownsfan says: Sep 26, 2013 7:18 AM

So Tampa wanted 3 mediocre QB’s on their roster?

  25. james1755 says: Sep 26, 2013 7:26 AM

Don’t everyone hide next week after Glennon throws four touchdown passes.

  26. routemkr77 says: Sep 26, 2013 7:56 AM

If he would have gone to Tampa, he would have played on the West Coast…..

    the West Coast of Florida

  27. westampa says: Sep 26, 2013 8:39 AM

How does the GM, Mark Dominick not get this done? Tampa was the only team Palmer specifically said he would be a good fit for, and they couldn’t swig it. A veteran QB is exactly what this team could of used, and could have possibly helped Josh.

  28. bonniebengal says: Sep 26, 2013 8:44 AM

Carson’s very versatile. He can throw pick sixes on either coast.

  29. nobby821 says: Sep 26, 2013 9:34 AM

    Freeman shouldnt be traded…

As soon as Gruden is coach again he’ll be the starter– a good one at that.

  30. rutchaser says: Sep 26, 2013 9:42 AM

Palmer is very excited to be where he is until things get tough. How long til he quits on the Cards?

  31. gavriloprincip33 says: Sep 26, 2013 9:53 AM

Who gets canned first – Schiano or Frazier in Minny?

  32. thinkarez says: Sep 26, 2013 2:57 PM

    Palmer is weak..
