Palmer says Bucs were contacting his agent “a lot”

Palmer

On Wednesday’s PFT Live, Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times said that, in the offseason, the Buccaneers considered acquiring quarterback Carson Palmer.

Later in the day, Palmer admitted that the Bucs were sniffing around.

“My agent had said that Tampa had been contacting him a lot,” Palmer said during a conference call with the Tampa Bay media. “I would have been very excited to be there. Their organization has a lot of good players across the board, but like I said, I’m excited and happy to be where I am. I’m excited about our future.”

When Palmer forced his way out of Cincinnati, it was believed he prefers to play on the West Coast. After forcing his way out of Oakland, he landed on the team closest to the West Coast that needed a quarterback.

While Palmer possibly would have arrived in Tampa as competition for Josh Freeman, that’s how Mike Glennon showed up, too. Regardless of the labels applied, it’s now obvious that, like any head coach that lands on a team with something other than a franchise quarterback, Greg Schiano wanted his own guy. And now Schiano has his own guy.

The challenge over the next three months and change will be to show that Sciano’s guy has enough to justify giving Schiano another season, if the losses in 2013 significantly outnumber the wins.
