Chris Cook, Jamarca Sanford out for Vikings

AP

The news that Christian Ponder won’t be in the lineup against the Steelers on Sunday was the biggest development in Vikings camp on Friday morning, but he won’t be the only player sidelined for the game because of injury.

Multiple reporters covering the Vikings in London report that cornerback Chris Cook and safety Jamarca Sanford have both been ruled out of this weekend’s contest. Cook has been battling a groin injury all week and hasn’t been able to practice, leading the team to shut him down until they return from their bye in Week Six at the earliest.

With Cook out of the game, the Vikings have to hope that A.J. Jefferson is able to play after being limited in practice this week by an ankle injury. The team has three other healthy corners on the roster, so bad news on the Jefferson front would lead them shorthanded against the Steelers passing attack.

Sanford left last week’s game with a hamstring injury and his absence will push Anthony Sendejo into the starting lineup. The Steelers offense has had a hard time getting going this season, but there should be opportunities to make plays on Sunday with the Vikings down two starters in the defensive backfield.

I guess that means two fewer receivers for Roethlisbooger to target.

  2. Pretty sure the team is used to Chris Cook not being on the field.

As far as Sanford, I’m interested in seeing what Raymond can do.

Not like our pass D can get much worse.

  3. WHY WOULD YOU NOT PLAY XAVIER RHODES OVER AJ JEFFERSON! this coaching is unbelievable it’s like they’re scared to play rookies. Jefferson can’t stop a nose bleed. I’m speechless at this point

  4. Paging Mr Winfield! Will Mr Winfield please pick up the Purple Courtesy Phone. Mr Winfield?

(looks like the Vikes may throw in a free trip to Europe too…)

    _______

It didn’t say anything about playing Jefferson over Rhodes. They’re just talking about having Jefferson available for depth. He would be the #4 corner.

  6. @Rick Spielman is a magician..they played Jefferson over Rhodes last week because they didn’t want Rhodes to play LCB even though he played left and right CB in college

  7. If we’re trying to build a fan base overseas why are we sending two of the current worst teams in the league over there? Give them a better product to watch and they might actually jump on board…

  8. For all his faults, when healthy, Cook actually is pretty good (yeah, there’s the healthy part). Sanford sucks in pass coverage and perpetually takes lousy angles on run plays, Jefferson wouldn’t be any good even if he stole and used all of CMIII’s steroids, and Robinson is rated about the worst coverage CB in the league by PFF. If we don’t get a pass rush, Sunday will be a London downer.

  9. “aj jefferson should not be in the nfl, worst cornerback I have ever seen”

then you must have missed the Wk1 Thursday night Season Opener. There was record-setting bad play all over the secondary.

I think Rhodes is only playing left CB, but whatever. This week Rhodes and Robinson are the starters and Sherels will come in on the nickel. We’ve seen what Jefferson can do.

I think these cream puff Viking players have learned to sit out games from that noodle armed Christian Ponder chick, who sat out a playoff game with an arm bruise.

Yawn. Same old generic rhetoric from the Packer trolls. “Hapless and tasteless” “Noodle armed Ponder” “chick” wow original.
I feel like I’ve read those same words next to filthys name a million times.

    Packer fans are truly the
    Worst. Trolls. Ever.

Why complain? It’s futile. Just like your hopes of the biqueens winning the SB.

Top to bottom the vike organization is the loony tune comedy club of the NFL.

    Skol MN endemic delusional disorder!

  13. Look at the bright side, at least Cook is missing the game due to injury vs. being in jail for beating up his girlfriend. And what did the girl do? She was talking on the phone and Cook paid for her transportation to the Trash Cities so that was the underlying cause of the beating.

Yes, folks, this is your MN Vikings.

  14. Some very funny stuff here guys and some shots. Ouch. We hope the vikes have a run someday like the last packers SB. What we would give for that. Uh

You and the 40 idiots giving you a thumbs up should maybe watch a game or two. Rhodes plays all the time…

  16. Rhodes only plays on the left when the Vikes are in their nickle defense. That’s why Sherels came in at right corner when Cook and Jefferson went out even though Sherels is only an emergency corner. The Vikes are going to look extra slow playing in that tall Wimberley grass. I don’t think this game will be competitive.

  17. With these injuries maybe the Steelers win actually win this game!

Okay, probably not but at least it should be close.

Then again… maybe not. Steelers suck pretty bad.
