Vontaze Burfict fined $31,000 for actions against Packers

Vontaze Burfict, James Jones AP

Bengals linebacker Vontaze Burfict shows up twice on this week’s list of fines confirmed by the NFL.

Burfict has been fined a total of $31,000 for two infractions against the Packers in Cincinnati’s 34-30 victory. He was fined $21,000 for a hit to the head and neck area of a defenseless receiver and $10,000 for hitting an opposing player below the belt.

The hit on the receiver came when Burfict hit Packers wide receiver James Jones as he was making a catch in the second quarter of the game. It was flagged for unnecessary roughness by the officials during the game.

Burfict’s other foul was not penalized, although the target of his blow was flagged. Burflict hit Packers tight end Ryan Taylor with a low blow as the two players locked up on an extra point try in the third quarter. Taylor retaliated with a shove, which the officials saw and penalized while Burfict escaped unpenalized. Taylor was not fined by the league for his retaliatory shove.

    Nobody’s Burfict.

The “unecessary roughness” rule was celebrated for decades as highlight reel hits shown on NFL films and the NFL’s broadcasting partners such as ESPN.

VB is a D. B. who should have also been fined for the flop job he performed, post low blow.

Cheaters. League should punish them by going back in the record books and striking any playoff win the Bengals have had in the past 20 years.

    That was fast.

    To doctorrustbelt;
If you honestly condone what he did to Taylor, I certain hope someone does it to you. He’s no better than Suh, just another DIRTY player who will get his. The boys around the league saw it and just like a child molester in prison, someone will pay him back with interest. I want to see that one on ESPN Highlights.

You have to laugh at any poster who cries about Burfict’s sneaky little tap to the groin and cries about dirty players while in the same breath looks forward and encourages the same type of dirty behavior that made him cry.

I don’t see much of the Bengals because they are AFC. But I know this muc….they are dirty. I firmly believe they were trying to take out as many Packer players as they could, rules be damned.

The fines should be astronomical. Like $125,000.00 or more. Players would learn the rules real fast, if that were the case.

Ever wonder why the Bungles can’t win a playoff game? No character, no class, and no playoff wins because they are a dirty team.

That’s a joke, you don’t see them much but you know they’re dirty?! I was at the game and the Packers fans sitting beside me thought the flags were ridiculous. It was a pretty clean game other than the cup check we just had some whistle happy refs.

  16. greenbay4life says: Sep 27, 2013 6:13 PM

Anyone else find it outrageous that he was fined less for a cowardly, shady, dirty hit below the belt then he was for an actual football hit!?! Come on!!

If a Packer fan agreed with you, it could only be because he was certain you were preparing to headbutt him.

  22. bonniebengal says: Sep 27, 2013 8:10 PM

The NFL can basically just fine whoever they want, penalty or no penalty. This needs to be regulated by someone. The player is basically at the mercy of the NFL. If the refs think there’s no penalty, then the NFL should not be able to take money from the player.

Wow, we beat the Packers and all the crybabys come out.

  23. lafan85 says: Sep 27, 2013 8:26 PM

If you weren’t a troll or DB-Bengal-hater and actually watched Bengals games closely you would know good and well that he was just doing what he learned from the Bears game week 1. Bengals turned the table from week 1 to week 3. Dirty… meh-a little, it was a tap, GB should have retaliated stronger. Is it part of the game- uh, yeah. (reference some dirty cheap shot artists with rings and busts in Canton like like L.T., Singletary, , etc…) All the bad arse m-f’rs were just that. And Burfict will be (if not already) that m-f’r that you hate to play against and wish you had on your team. You don’t think James Harrison hasn’t taught him a thing or two? Always been the same… Retaliator always gets burned. 2x Bears got away with cheap shots and Bengals got burned retaliating. And anyone who could objectively account for the Bengals/Packers game would agree that EVERY personal foul, all 4, (both ways) were terrible calls… while at the same time they missed some legit ones.

All hits like that should get huge fines unless there is a “G” on the side of the helmet. Then those hits should be rewarded.

We already have a slow overrated linebacker in AJ Hawk…

I’d rather have Geno Atkins(pre contract) or Michael Johnson on my team thou.

The Bengals players came out of that game with a lot of injuries as well. It was a hard fought game. We are used to those coming from the AFC North. It seems like Packer fans are used to everyone stepping out of the way and their team strolls into the end zone.
