Patriots officially downgrade Gronkowski, Amendola to out

Amendola AP

It’s official.  When Walter White and Jesse Pinkman are wrapping up their five seasons of meth-making antics, Danny Amendola and Rob Gronkowski will be able to watch.

Amendola and Gronkowski, who reportedly didn’t make the trip from New England to Atlanta, officially have been downgraded from questionable to out.

It’s a common outcome for players who are designated on Friday as having a 50-50 chance of playing.  Come Saturday, the 50 goes to zero when the player ends up not making the trip to the site of the game.

The fact that home-team players rarely get downgraded from questionable to out reconfirms that team’s play games with the injury reports.  (I know, you’re shocked.)  The Patriots, who proclaimed that both players have an equal chance of playing and not playing just a day ago, were forced to concede that the players aren’t playing when they left them home.

The fact that the Patriots knew more than 24 hours before kickoff that the players couldn’t play suggests that the actual likelihood of the players playing was far closer to doubtful than questionable on Friday.

But all’s fair in love, war, and football, which coaches all too often love to compare to war when justifying methods that don’t necessarily comply with the letter or spirit of the rules.

It’s the Pats*–what else do you expect for them to do other than bend the rules to the breaking point and beyond?

    Karma still alive and well!!!

Right about now, the Atlanta Falcons must be “licking their chops” (or beaks, as the case may be).

Oh yes! Karma is going to injure two people who had nothing to do with the Pats past discretions. Loser

I hear that Wes Welker is feeling fine.

Because PFT isn’t already drowning in Gronk/Amendola news.

It’s fun getting the Patsie fans wound up.

Different teams have different goals. The Patriots is make the playoffs and compete. They are 3-0 with 3 tough ganes to go. If they somehow beat the falcons without the Gronk they can wait 3 more weeks till activating him

Very sweet of the Patriots to sign someone so Glass Gronk won’t become lonely on IR and search the comfort of shirtless strangers at the discoteca.

Get what you paid for, guys

Favorite thing about Pats posts… all the haters come out and talk about how stupid the Pats are and how they are so smart and their team is amazing and blah blah blah….same people that complain the govt doesn’t give them enough welfare or how its so unfair someone else drives a BMW and they still love with their mom. Face it even with everything that has happened they are still a good team. Some people can’t deal with that. My Fins are finally doing good, hopefully one day people will hate them like they do the Pats. That’s when you know you are good.

Enjoy it. In real life you’d probably wet your pants if you had to deal with some of us.

    At least Hernandez could play.

  19. svn2011 says: Sep 28, 2013 9:54 PM

Iam sure you wouldve been okay if these two made the trip and were made to sit out tomorrow at game time. Come on. Whats the big deal about this ? What spirit of rules are you talking about. ? they were questionable to play and were downgraded to out. What is it that is wrong here ?

Amendola is the softest football player on the planet.

This is no new song and dance for Bill Belichick. I don’t think he’s tricking anyone with his shady injury reports anymore, but Bill has to be Bill, doesn’t he?

Man I love having BB as our coach!!!
As a pats fan he keeps life interesting & I just love how much he ticks off the simpletons out there especially the media clowns…WICKED AWESOME!!!

Once a cheater, will always be a cheater. No other NFL team in history, like the New England Patriots has been as corrupted as them. Will the NFL ever act on this?

Injury prone I’ll give you, but not soft. The guy plays like a beast on the field.

How’s that Welker for Amendola deal working so far

  29. tryurluck says: Sep 29, 2013 12:09 PM

Bad for the pats…and for the guy I play in fantasy this week! Not worried though my TE (jimmy graham) is just fine……it’s a good thing they picked up amendola….meanwhile in Denver there’s a good little receiver having a great start to what will probably be a Super Bowl year!
