Bernie Kosar arrested on suspicion of DUI

Former Browns quarterback Bernie Kosar has been open about the troubles he’s faced since the end of his playing career, including brain trauma and financial issues.

It looks like he has another problem to deal with. The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports that Kosar was arrested early Sunday morning and accused of driving under the influence of alcohol.

Kosar was pulled over for speeding at 2:42 a.m. ET by officers from the Solon Police Department in suburban Cleveland. Officers smelled alcohol coming from the vehicle and administered sobriety tests at the scene, according to a press release from the police. He was then taken to a police station without incident.

Among the troubles that Kosar has discussed were issues with alcohol and pain medication, although Kosar indicated they were in the past in a 2009 interview with the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Concerns about Kosar’s well-being were front and center after a 2012 radio interview that featured Kosar slurring his words and speaking incoherently. Kosar has since returned to broadcasting work, although not without incident this preseason when he was quite harsh in his assessment of the St. Louis Rams.
