Jake Locker carted off after apparent hip injury

Jake Locker AP

Titans quarterback Jake Locker’s three touchdown passes have the Titans up 24-6 in the third quarter, but his day appears to have come to an early end.

Locker had to be carted off the field after a hit by Muhammad Wilkerson after Locker threw an incomplete pass. Locker’s body twisted as he went down and immediately grabbed his right hip before laying still on the field until trainers got to his side.

Wilkerson hit Locker after he threw the ball, but was not flagged by the officials. It appeared to be close to being on the right side of too late, but we’ve seen flags thrown for similar hits in the past.

The cart was brought out immediately and Locker went to the back. We’ll pass along updates as to exactly what’s wrong once they come down, but it didn’t look good for the Titans’ starting quarterback.

Ryan Fitzpatrick is now in the game for the Titans.

UPDATE 6:13 p.m. ET: The Titans have announced that Locker is being evaluated for a right hip injury.

Wilkerson saw Locker release the ball, took a step and hit him anyway with his helmet. I’m surprised he wasn’t flagged, the official was right there, but I’m confident Wilkerson is going to get a hefty fine this week. We’ll see if that’s the case.

That was a pretty late hit & he drove his helmet right into the chest. Not saying it was intentionally dirty but it was well after the release of the ball.

If it was Brady or manning though, he would’ve been tossed from the game.

Fitz is a good back up. Too bad the Browns dont know what a good back up is, they believe that back ups are starters. Thanks for the win Hoyer now lets go 5-11 once again

Locker is like RGIII, which is another way of saying race cars are fast but man do they break easy.

I thought he led with his arms and more pushed him than drive with his helmet as Fouts said.

there’s only been one dirty hit this game -Michael Griffins cheap shot to Stephen Hill’s head. Titans have been a dirty squad for years so don’t go pointing fingers.

Not a Tenn fan, but I am a Locker fan – that was a dirty hit designed to take Locker out of the game. I hope Jake can get back ASAP as this really seems to be his break-out year.

hey johnny – Gregg Williams coaches for the Titans not the Jets, so maybe rethink your “trying to hurt him” claim.
