MADD is not happy with Jaguars’ free beer promotion

For all the jokes created by the Jaguars offering free beer as part of a ticket promotion this week, at least one group didn’t think it was any funnier than their play on the field.

A spokesman from Mothers Against Drunk Driving told Alex Marvez of FOX Sports the group was concerned about the decision by the team.

“MADD partners with the NFL to promote a safe fan experience. However, we’re concerned that the recent Jaguars promotion may run counter to those efforts,” MADD spokesperson Anna Duerr said.

“Research indicates that reducing the price of alcohol leads to increased consumption, intoxication and drunk driving. Some states even ban the distribution of free alcoholic beverages as a part of their dedication to responsible serving practices. It’s our sincere hope that other teams don’t duplicate similar promotions.”

The promotion offered two free drinks (it could have been water or soda) with the purchase of certain tickets during a three-hour window in midweek.

Jaguars spokesman Dan Edwards said he did not think the team would repeat the promotion, which is all the evidence you need to know this was a bad idea.

Has MADD watched the Jags play??

It was a great idea. MADD has cast themselves as virtual abolishiinists. We know how well that movement worked out.

Hey, gotta do what u gotta do …But don’t worry Mrs madd spokeswoman… other team would have to resort to that promotion because the jags are not a genuine professional football team.

Highly doubt people drove away from the game THAT much drunker than your average NFL game…

I believe in MADDs cause but let’s not go overboard here. I’m drinking at a football game if the beers are $0 or $10.

  8. smokingconch says: Sep 29, 2013 8:17 PM

Wonder how much someone spent researching that people buy more beer when its cheap….

  9. danfan528 says: Sep 29, 2013 8:21 PM

Has MADD ever been to ANY football game?

  10. packerbackernj says: Sep 29, 2013 8:22 PM

Being a Jag fan actually causes people to drink more.

  11. xmiksticky says: Sep 29, 2013 8:23 PM

Maybe if these mothers were less concerned with everyone else and stayed home in the kitchen and cooked a dinner they’re sons and husbands would stay home watch the game and have a couple beers.

MADD is a joke….craziest part is politicians actually listen to them!

  17. dowhatifeellike says: Sep 29, 2013 8:36 PM

Meh. If I were a Jags fan I’d be too blitzed from pregaming to even find the free beer.

  18. audient says: Sep 29, 2013 8:38 PM

Two free beers, not all the beer you can drink.

I’m just glad they are not asking for the redskins to change their name. Pft has not run anything on that in four hours. Just saying

    Are you mad, MADD?

  22. kuranda84 says: Sep 29, 2013 9:01 PM

    When have they been happy?

  23. foosballisthedevil says: Sep 29, 2013 9:01 PM

Looks like the only people to take the Jags up on the promotion were the 53 people suited up in uniform

  24. howiefeltersnatch says: Sep 29, 2013 9:07 PM

MADD is a group of shameless hypocrites.

  25. jolink653 says: Sep 29, 2013 9:16 PM

I bet MADD wouldn’t think that way if they were forced to sit through a Jags game

  26. napavalleyshaun says: Sep 29, 2013 9:28 PM

    They should be.

As a winemaker in Napa Valley it means they still have a pulse, keeps them relevant and contributes towards overhead.

Careful not to bite the hand that feeds you ladies.

This just in: Homeless ‘advocates’ pissed that everyone has a place to live.

  27. rcali says: Sep 29, 2013 9:35 PM

Um, I think maybe the mothers need a little sippy sippy to take off the edge.

  28. mattseas says: Sep 29, 2013 9:37 PM

Jaguars’ fans not happy with Jaguars’ win giveaway promotion either.

  29. mdd913 says: Sep 29, 2013 9:41 PM

Two beers? Really? My wife isn’t even tipsy after two beers and she weighs like 95 pounds.

    MADD is the American Taliban”

That would be the evangelical religious fundamentalists like Pat Robertson, Dick Perry, and the Southern Baptists.

Also, no one’s getting drunk on one beer, especially Bud Light.

  32. onebucplace says: Sep 29, 2013 10:09 PM

.08 is a joke already, now these hens want to whine over two beers? Get back in the kitchen and make me some pot pies.

    Thank you.

    A Man.

  33. ninthwardfriend says: Sep 29, 2013 10:20 PM

DAMM “drunks against mad mothers” get over it. Hell most season ticket holders like myself can’t afford to get drunk in an NFL stadium. Beer’s in the superdome are 9 bucks for one 12oz. We sip until it’s over and head to the French Quarter, and we walk there MADD….. So stay MADD.

  34. thetooloftools says: Sep 29, 2013 10:26 PM

Wait till they stat serving Jag Daniel’s shots after every missed field goal !

  35. mcjon22 says: Sep 29, 2013 10:34 PM

Just move them to LA already. Even when they were decent, they had attendance issues.

Most people in that part of the state would chose watching a .500 Gator team play Savannah State over going to a Jaguars playoff game.

With as much as I despise the city of Jacksonville for just being a worthless piece of garbage, considering how horrible their team has been they don’t have any attendance issues as there is NOTHING else to do there. I mean nothing. That’s why I think a Major League type plot is going on to tank the team and create attendance issues so they can move to LA. The simple fact that they have no QB and they could sign Tebow and instantly fill the stadium is all the proof I need, well other than the miscarriage they put on the field.

  38. djdemonshell says: Sep 30, 2013 3:55 AM

C’mon….haven’t the Jaguars fans suffered enough?? Let ’em knock a few back and try to forget their troubles.

  39. mtheparrothead says: Sep 30, 2013 7:36 AM

Is this a buc fan ripping attendance/jax? Is there a team Tampa does support? Even your winning teams (rays) attendance is a joke.

  40. nationalmediacansuckit says: Sep 30, 2013 9:05 AM

Really. A Bucs fan attempting to talk about another team attendance issues. Hahahahahahahahaha. Please stop. Hahahahahhahahah. Oh yeah there is SOOOOOO much to do in Tampa. Hilarious.
