For all the jokes created by the Jaguars offering free beer as part of a ticket promotion this week, at least one group didn’t think it was any funnier than their play on the field.

A spokesman from Mothers Against Drunk Driving told Alex Marvez of FOX Sports the group was concerned about the decision by the team.

“MADD partners with the NFL to promote a safe fan experience. However, we’re concerned that the recent Jaguars promotion may run counter to those efforts,” MADD spokesperson Anna Duerr said.

“Research indicates that reducing the price of alcohol leads to increased consumption, intoxication and drunk driving. Some states even ban the distribution of free alcoholic beverages as a part of their dedication to responsible serving practices. It’s our sincere hope that other teams don’t duplicate similar promotions.”

The promotion offered two free drinks (it could have been water or soda) with the purchase of certain tickets during a three-hour window in midweek.

Jaguars spokesman Dan Edwards said he did not think the team would repeat the promotion, which is all the evidence you need to know this was a bad idea.
