Brian Hoyer is still the Browns’ starting quarterback.
Hoyer will start on Thursday night against the Bills, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. That will make it three consecutive starts for Hoyer.
There’s no word on whether the thumb injury suffered by Brandon Weeden, who opened the season as Cleveland’s starter, is getting any better. But at this point, whether Weeden is healthy or not, Hoyer would seem to be the best option: Hoyer has played better than Weeden so far, and the Browns are 2-0 with Hoyer starting after opening the season 0-2 with Weeden starting.
If the Browns beat the Bills on Thursday night, they’d improve to 3-2 and would have a leg up on the 2-2 Ravens and 2-2 Bengals in the AFC North. Just a couple weeks ago people were saying the Browns had given up on the season. Now Hoyer has people talking about the Browns as playoff contenders.
Which means we can probably forget about Weeden getting his job back. This looks like Hoyer’s team.
