Munchak: Tests on Locker encouraging, another MRI set for Tuesday

There was a report Monday that Titans quarterback Jake Locker was headed to injured reserve with the designation to return as a result of the hip injury he suffered against the Jets on Sunday, but coach Mike Munchak wasn’t willing to rule Locker out of any games other than the Week Five matchup with the Chiefs during his meeting with the media on Monday afternoon.

Munchak said that the team still hopes to be able to keep Locker on the 53-man roster rather than place him on any kind of injured reserve, but that the severity of the injury and timetable for recovery are still being determined. Tests have been encouraging thus far, according to Munchak, and Locker will take another MRI on Tuesday to help make the final diagnosis.

Munchak also revealed that Locker suffered a sprained MCL in addition to the hip injury, although it doesn’t seem like there’s much worry that the knee is going to be the biggest obstacle to getting Locker back on the field.

The team’s plans at quarterback beyond Locker were also up for discussion Monday. Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean reports that Munchak wouldn’t commit to Rusty Smith serving as the backup to Ryan Fitzpatrick, which explains why the coach also said the team will be looking at quarterbacks Tuesday.

  1. Hope it all works out for him he has looked great at the start of the season his progression has really came along and this team looks like a playoff contender.

  2. I could care less about the playoffs at this point. I care about getting the franchise QB back. Hoping this is a 3-4 week injury & not 8-9 week or season ender.

  3. BSRadmin…

    Awesome comment!

As a life long Titans/Oilers fan, I’m really impressed with how this team is playing.
I was at the Texans/Titans game and boy did the Titans give that game away at the end.
They gave up like 200 yards between the last few minutes of the 4th Quarter and OT.. crazy.

But Locker looks great, getting better from week to week, I hope his injury doesn’t keep him out long. Titans gave us fans something to look forward to so far!

  4. We will pray for your speedy recovery to 100% health…

@ ThenFlguru3 – why is it all the Texans fans who post on here are punks who have to talk smack like you…

Jake Locker > Matt Schaub…it will play out over time…

    Well wishes Jake!
