Chris Snee may need season-ending hip surgery

Chris Snee AP

The Giants are 0-4, and their list of problems seems to be growing.

According to a report by Tom Rock of Newsday, Pro Bowl guard Chris Snee has a tear in the labrum of his hip which may require surgery.

Snee had a similar operation on his other hip this offseason, but the problem on the other side is limiting his ability to move.

“This one has the pain, but he can’t move,” a source said. “If they don’t get the joint to move again, [surgery] is probably going to be the only option. . . .

“[There's] not a lot of improvement from the treatments. It is not looking too good right now.”

Snee missed Sunday’s loss to the Chiefs, the second game he’s missed since 2004. He was replaced by James Brewer, but that didn’t help matters.

With a condensed schedule coming up (hosting the Eagles this week followed by a Thursday trip to Chicago), Snee’s short-term future is up in the air, and his long-term future with the Giants is as well.

Good thing he’s Coughlin’s son-in-law or he’d have been dumped already.

The real question is can he still row captain hook’s boat? *rimshot*

Cut him already….wth are the Giants goofing around for?? And please don’t give me the son-in-law stuff…..that is no longer even relevant. He has two rings and is rich. The Giants owe him nothing at this point. Back when the Giants cut seubert and o’hara, BOTH of them were more effective than snee is now.

They cant cut Snee. Could you imagine how awkward Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners would be?

He declined horribly. And QUICKLY. Even before the hip became an issue, he was regressing in 2011. Just move on.

    He’ll get over it, bilnicki62.

Giants hung onto Seubert for years waiting for him to rehab a career ending spiral fracture in his leg. That dude was injured more than he was healthy. Good thing they did, huh?

The guy played 10 years, most of them at a very high level, in the NFL. His time has come…..he has nothing to be ashamed of AND the Giants have nothing to feel guilty about. Time to move on.
Sign a stud LT, G, or C, move beatty to RT, move Pugh to RG, draft the 2 positions that you didn’t sign in FA in the first 2 rounds of the draft. Screw BPA….Giants need to draft for need…..with where they’ll probably be picking they wont be reaching too far. THERE….OFFENSIVE LINE PROBLEM SOLVED.

How did SNEE make it on the all madden team on madden ’13? Along with Walter Payton, joe Montana, joe Greene, etc?

All the best players all-time and then there is SNEE?!

The guy was a good player but SNEE? Someone looking out for the guy…

Beatty is not a road grader. He’s a finesse tackle. “Stud LT’s” are not on the market. If they are, they’re 10M+. For 10 years, they’ve drafted in the last quarter of the 1st rd when all the “studs” have been picked over and all that’s left are OL with late 2nd and 3rd rd grades. Do you reach for one of them like Jerry Jones did this year for his center or do you take a top 5 projected CB like Amukamara at 19 (who is blossoming before our eyes)? You sound like you’re the GM of the Browns.

Yup….you don’t have to convince me about seubert. The difference though was that the rest of the Giants line was in pretty good shape at the time so it wasnt as big a deal. Now its a totally different story. Not only is Snee basically useless, but his salary is out of control AND the rest of the interior line stinks too.

reese needs to start fixing the mistakes he’s made over the last 2-3 years.

Your team revolves around your QB, your o-line, and your d-line…in that order. Since Reese took over he’s had a total of 23 picks in rounds 1-3. In that time he has picked TWO o-lineman (beatty and pugh). Look no further than to that simple fact to see why the Giants currently blow.

O-lineman have the highest success rate of ANY position in terms of transitioning from college to the NFL….and Reese only drafted 2 of them in the prime rounds since 2007….inexcusable.

I really don’t have a problem with Beatty. He’s gotten beat in a couple of games, facing two of the top 5 pass rushers in the league (Ware, Hali) and two others who combined for 23 sacks last year (Johnson and Hardy).

I am not going to lose any sleep over him. He graded B+ last year, and held his own. Boothe is the best along the line, and they need to move him to center. Cordle has no business out there. Play Brewer at left guard, Mosley at right guard, and let Pugh continue to develop. He has been surprisingly good, all things considered. It has been the interior of the line that has been the flood gate in both the run and pass. Wilson had a few more holes Sunday (if you guys noticed) and Eli at least had SOME time this week. Let this unit gel. Diehl would be better at guard when he is healthy, but it’s time to cut ties with Snee and Baas. I am glad they signed this kid Reynolds. Baas won’t cut it, with his turnstile blocking style.

The runs to Beatty’s side are usually kick out blocks by him and the left guard and trying to play the perimeter anyway. I need to see Mosley and Pugh (or whoever is at right guard) hold up the point and allow for holes, since the Giants’ bread and butter has been running on the right side since Tiki left, anyway.

Beatty doesn’t have to be a “road grader”….he needs to add lower body strength. And there are at least 3 Top level LT’s coming out this year….and I have no idea who will be available on the FA market. You are over-complicating things. You’re letting your anger at the current Giants debacle get in the way of your common sense. And prince wasn’t projected top 5…more like top 10. If the giants pick where they probably will be picking, there aren’t too many players who will be “dropping” to them anyway. Unless they get the #1, they probably have to go tackle in the first round….and the value will be there.

  15. arwiv says: Oct 1, 2013 5:57 PM

And one more thing….please don’t say that the giants couldn’t have either traded out of the first rd or possibly possibly traded up to get a few O-lineman in all this time.

Reese’s BPA philosophy needs to be tempered at the very least. The idiotic nassib pick last year is a perfect example. Barrett Jones was the obvious pick.
