Le’Veon Bell: Things will start going our way eventually

Britain Steelers Vikings Football AP

The Steelers are 0-4 for the first time in 45 years, leading some to ask what changes will be coming over the bye week.

According to running back Le’Veon Bell, not too many. Bell said Tuesday that the team isn’t planning to overhaul anything in an effort to halt their losing streak.

“We’re going to keep working. We’re not going to change nothing,” Bell said, via Alan Robinson of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. “Eventually, things will start going our way. We’ve got to keep chipping away. Nothing is easy in the NFL, so we’ve got to keep chipping away.”

The point Bell’s making is clear, despite the double negative. Giants coach Tom Coughlin recently pointed out his own team hasn’t had a problem with effort on their way to 0-4 and effort hasn’t seemed to be the problem for the Steelers either. They’ve been beaten at the point of attack on both sides of the ball, have a -11 turnover ratio and have the fewest sacks of any team in the AFC. While the team can’t afford to dial back their effort, just chipping away at the same old thing isn’t likely to produce markedly different results.

That said, it’s going to be hard for the Steelers to implement any radical changes to their personnel or schemes four games into the regular season so they don’t have much recourse beyond hoping that things will eventually start going their way.

Yeah they will start going your way…..eventually. Just ask the Seahawks.

Pitt will be playing the Jets soon so he’s right.

    Not with this team…

I like Bell. He seems like a good, hard working kid. Glad he’s on our team. Even tho we stink now. #FireArians

How many steelers fans does it take to change a light bulb?
They don’t, they just talk about how good the old one was…

  6. dickroy says: Oct 1, 2013 3:45 PM

Hope so Le’Veon. It will take a special kind of running back talent to run behind the offensive line we have been putting on the field.

  7. crosberger says: Oct 1, 2013 3:50 PM

Let’s see, a bunch of Ravens fans will gloat and make stupid comments, someone will mention that Rothlisberger is a rapist, and then a small discussion will happen between some Steelers fans and other NFL fans about the actual topic of the post. I think that’s how it usually goes, right?

  8. buzzbeaubank says: Oct 1, 2013 3:57 PM

Never perused the comments on a Ravens article, have you, crosberger?

I think the first thing the Steelers need to do for things to start going their way is to force one turnover. Just one.

  9. thestrategyexpert says: Oct 1, 2013 4:01 PM

But by that time you will be in the last year of your contract and possibly soon to join a new random team.

I hope you are so very proud of yourself for being #200 to use that tired joke. You should be on the thread about the conspiracy at SB when the lights went out…..making tired jokes about the steelers when two morons representing your team is rather ironic. Everyone is laughing at the Baltimoron cry babies…..you won but you still whine..wonder why you are the least respected SB champs ?

  12. hgamatt says: Oct 1, 2013 4:16 PM

To be fair, they would probably rank better among AFC teams in sacks if they were able to play a game against the Steelers…

The BUBBY BRISTER ERA has returned.

  14. jmblosser82 says: Oct 1, 2013 4:19 PM

History us important. Yea the steelers started out the first 49 years bad, but today’s game us different. The jags, went to 1-2 AFC title game in the first few years around. Ravens, an expansion team in title only, won a SB in the first 4 years. But the owner had like a 40 year drought under his resume. SB era no team has been better. They had some down years in the 80’s but in the 70’s and between the early 90’s till ’10 they were always in the SB talks. Look for 3-5 down years while they retool. They’ll be back before everyone knows it.

  15. koenig61 says: Oct 1, 2013 4:26 PM

I understand what Bell is saying. It’s kind of like when a DB gets a penalty or a fine for a H2H hit. Reporters ask the DB will he change his way of playing, and when the DB says no, everyone jumps on him as a dirty player, and until he changes his ways, he’s going to keep getting fines and penalties. No DB is out there head hunting or trying to have H2H hits. The game is super fast, you are timing your hit on a moving target, who suddenly dips his head or ducks or whatever and bam, you’ve got a H2H hit, or one of these completely nonsensical, defenseless receivers penalties. All bell is saying is that the team is giving 100 %. Right now the problem is a offensive line that is trying to play together as a single unit, with only a few games together. a block here or there, giving Ben just one more second before he has to scramble, and the breaks will eventually go their way. For example in the Viking games, it’s 3rd down, casell scrambles he’s hit and fumbles, but the ball bounces forward 6 yards and a Viking falls on it, first down Vikings, instead of 4th down and having to punt. Bell isn’t saying they won’t keep tweaking the offense and defense, but there is only so much tweaking you can do bad on the personnel you currently have.

  16. Steeley McBeam says: Oct 1, 2013 4:32 PM

Not making excuses but man we’ve had some bad breaks. Injuries, untimely turnovers, close calls and having to travel overseas to play a QB which there was no tape for. Steelers have been in every game they just cant make the one or two plays needed to win them.

Obviously this happens to every team. But I’ve never seen it happen so often and at such bad times. If week 5 were week 1 theres no way the Steelers would go 0-4.

But, we are, so enjoy it haters.

  17. pooflingingmonkey says: Oct 1, 2013 4:38 PM

Typical Steeler thread. Excuses, and numerous “back when we were good” statements.

The Steelers are awful now. Deal with it. It happens to every team at some point.

He’s right, the next 3 weeks will be good medicine: Bye – Jets – another Bye. Healthy and posied to make a run.

  20. telke24 says: Oct 1, 2013 4:45 PM

Your team is old, not enough playmakers, no O-Line—-guessing 4-6 wins tops

  21. Deb says: Oct 1, 2013 4:51 PM

Bell said Tuesday that the team isn’t planning to overhaul anything in an effort to halt their losing streak.

But he believes things will start going our way eventually. Perhaps Bell’s never heard the definition of insanity is to keep doing the same thing hoping for different results.

I expect at some point we will win a game. But unless we make drastic changes in the coming off-season, things will not miraculously start going “our way.”

I think the Steelers will elevate themselves back to mediocrity no later than the 2017 season…

  31. bobzilla1001 says: Oct 2, 2013 1:43 AM

I guess if the offense (the QB) can’t stop giving games away, the logical thing to do is to blame the defense for not causing turnovers.
The Titans’ offense has not turned over the ball once this season, and the team’s record is 3-1. The Vikings’ defense has caused, forced, created 12 turnovers, and the team’s record is 1-3.
I’d say having a fundamentally sound and well-disciplined offense is more important than hoping the defense plays a team that’s willing to beat itself.
Gotta laugh that so many have penciled in a win against the Jets. Have you people been paying attention the past 21 games?

  32. steel2372 says: Oct 2, 2013 7:07 AM

Bell has been one of the few bright spots to this season. I thought he played well against the Viks. Its going to take alot more to turn this team around. The O-line is in shambles with the injuries to Foster and Pouncey. I never have been a big fan of Adams or Gilbert. Lets hope these guys can turn it around during the bye week and we can start getting some wins.

There are two kinds of people – Steeler fans, and those that wish they were Steeler fans.

All good things end, the number of good days in Steeler Nation out number the bad days. Steeler Nation has been spoiled, we have been to the Super Bowl three times in the last ten seasons – how many other teams can make that statement ? We are the most fortunate fans in the NFL with Super Bowl memories t hat will last for generations, Super Bowl memories that most other teams fans will never ever have. WE ARE STEELER NATION – HERE WE GO STEELERS HERE WE GO !!!!!!

No excuses..And didn’t Haley have Matt Cassle in Kansas City? We didn’t need Tape..this team just lacks talent on both sides of the ball now..Gone are the days when teams only scored 14-17 points on us..they given up 27ppg over 4 games and worse then that 122 rushing upgrade..Even the Browns are playin better ball..Run game..big strong WRs..TUFF LBs and physical DBs..everything we use to have
