On Sunday, a handful of Texans fans destroyed a Matt Schaub jersey with fire. At some point since then, Schaub has destroyed his Twitter account, presumably without the use of flames.
Nick Wright of 610 SportsRadio in Houston passes along the word that he’s noticed Schaub’s account, @mschaub8, no longer exists. (Wright doesn’t know the reason, but he -- like we -- think the timing is odd.)
If Schaub dumped the account because he is getting peppered by “haters,” it’s a far different strategy for dealing with criticism than the one employed by the next quarterback Schaub will face, on Sunday Night Football. 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick revels in the harsh comments, selecting them as “favorite” tweets so that they can give him motivation.
As Gantt pointed out in the emails the PFT writers (some of which are fit for print, and some aren’t), there’s a chance that the Twitter account still exists -- and that Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman has intercepted it and is running the other way, sans a shoe.
There’s also a chance that coach Gary Kubiak pulled the plug on the account, if deleting Twitter is an audible Schaub doesn’t have the power to call.
UPDATE 10:25 a.m. ET: The Texans say that Schaub dumped the Twitter account in January. Possibly after losing on the road in blowout fashion to the Patriots?
