Vikings have no love for Love after suspension

AP

Not every team is welcoming back suspended players with open arms. Some are handing  guys a few boxes to put their stuff in.

According to Adam Caplan of TheSidelineView.com, the Vikings are expected to release offensive lineman DeMarcus Love today.

Love was suspended four games for violating the league’s policy on performance-enhancing drugs.

A 2011 sixth-round pick, Love has yet to play in a regular season game, and he won’t with the Vikings now.

  1. A 6th round pick from a previous draft that has never played in a regular season game? I thought Rick Spielman is a genius, except for reaching for Ponder at #12 other than that, he is a drafting genius.

And I thought Packer’s tickets were impossible to get but I can go online and buy as many as I want. I guess having season tickets is the only thing that matters to Packer fans. Using them is not that big of a deal. Most sell them to others.

regardless if it’s season ticket holders or people who buy those tickets Packer games always sell out, unlike queen games where if I remember right didn’t you guys have to blackout a playoff game??? hahah losers, shows the quality of fans your team has. Where as we will sell out with a good or a bad team.

  4. Why should it matter why or if he was drafted? The question should be, is this because of what he was alleged to have done, or is it convenient for the team?

Or maybe the team was going to cut him anyway and the suspension saved him that indignity for four weeks.

  6. Everyone, including Love, knew at the time of his suspension that he was not going to make the team.

And is a Pack fan really making fun of the Vikings for releasing a 6th rounder when TT has done the same thing numerous times? Was that entry posted during a break at the vo-tech?

  7. (Player who gets suspended for PEDs) + (Same player gets cut the minute he gets back) = (That player is still on PEDs)

    (Like, without fail.)

Anyone ever wonder why the ONLY bar in town is always filled to capacity? Same thing with the packers, nothing else to do on a sunday afternoon.

  9. I’ll applaud the first team, even if it’s a hated rival, that cuts a high potential, top draft pick for substance abuse, or poor off-field behavior. Until that happens though, moves like this mean nothing.

  10. This guy was a bust 2 years ago…Still trying to figure out how chumps like Webb and Josh Robinson are still seeing the field….and Coradelle Patterson gets one pass a game thrown his way….this coaching staff and Spielman are way out of their league IMO…and I’m a damn Vikings fan…

Mr. Love, welcome to the world of responsibility for your actions. Bill

Yep, he’s not a good enough player to be exempt.

  12. So… a juiced up All-Pro running back is O.K…. but a juiced up backup offensive lineman isn’t O.K..

    Contra,
Nothing to do in Green Bay?? If we get bored we count championships!

Ok, so how does that improve your current team? Tell you what, unless those championships can improve your team today I would stop bringing them up. Its a desperate attempt to look good.

  14. As the late, great Bud Grant once famously said, “Viking fans are small (mentally) people, living small lives, beneath the giant shadow of the Green Bay Packers”.

  15. for those interested in factual information:

Teams and year of last blackout/non-sell out[edit]
    Packers (1959)†
    Redskins (1965)†
    Broncos (1969)†
    Steelers (1972)†
    Giants (1975)
    Jets (1977)
    49ers (1981)
    Bears (1984)
    Cowboys (1990)
    Patriots (1993)
    Browns (1995)
    Titans (1997)
    Vikings (1997)
    Dolphins (1998)
    Eagles (1999)
    Colts (2002)
    Panthers (2002)
    Seahawks (2002)
    Saints (2004)
    Cardinals (2005)
    Falcons (2007)
    Chiefs (2009)
    Jaguars (2009)
    Rams (2009)
    Lions (2010)
    Bengals (2012)
    Bills (2012)
    Buccaneers (2012)
    Chargers (2012)
    Raiders (2012)

As of the 2012 season, the Houston Texans (founded in 2002) and Ravens (1996) have never had a blacked out game.
† – Games were always blacked out locally before 1973; the dates for the Packers, Redskins, Broncos, and Steelers refer to the last non-sellout.

Viking 6th round picks under Spielman:

    2013- Jeff Baca (backup OG)
    2012- Blair Walsh (1-time Pro Bowler & 1-time First-Team All-Pro)
    2011- Demarcus Love (cut today)
    Mistral Raymond (backup safety)
    Brandon M. Fusco (starting OG)
    2010- Joe Webb (backup WR)
    2009- John Sullivan (starting center)
Jaymar Johnson (backup WR cut in 2011)
2007- Rufus Alexander (backup LB cut in 2008)

rick took over as GM in May of 2006. With 9 6th round picks since taking over 33% are starters and 66% are contributors and still on the roster which is well above the mean for 6th round picks in the NFL.

  16. Yet another in the long history of many viking cheating rule breakers suspended then out of the league.
How many is it so far this season?

At least they have a running back coming back from suspension this week.

There is a huge flaw in the people the Triangle of Authority brings in.

  17. Now, is he the one who fedex’d the “package” to his own house, but in his brother’s name? I get confused because it’s hard to keep them all straight…

Being as you are a packer fan, that counting wouldn’t go past one or whichever number packer fans think comes first. When packer fans get bored, they think up conspiracy theories about how the world has cheated them in every single loss they have ever had. How’s your codeine fiend Johnny Jolly doing?

Please enlighten us on how wonderful the Minnesota Opera was last Sunday. Or the Museum of Fine Arts? Yeah right…….

We don’t need anything more than the Packers. We love it. We have more football history and tradition in our memories than you will ever have in your dreams.

There is a reason champion surfers live near the ocean and champion skiers live near the mountains. What else do you need?

The Vikings are a terrible franchise, and their fans are not smart.
    ……………….
And to think, I used to think you were a decent fan and contributor back in the ESPN days. You have sunk awfully low, Sir.
