LaMichael James does not want to sell insurance

AP

LaMichael James won’t be doing the “discount double check” anytime soon.

The 49ers running back tweeted a message of frustration, then deleted it, regarding his small role in the offense.

CSNBayArea.com got a picture of the tweet in question before it was erased, in which James wrote: “Some things I just don’t understand at all I don’t work at State Farm I’m not trying to be insurance.”

James was inactive the first three games this year, and had three carries for no (0) yards against the Rams. The former second-round pick filled in for an injured Kendall Hunter last year, but hasn’t made much of an impact, or made any funny commercials with Bears fans on a plane.

  1. Roman needs to use him better much like the Saints do with Sproles. Bet Chip Kelly would love to have him again.

  2. Doesn’t he have a coach he could talk to about getting more playing time?

Twitter certainly isn’t gonna be on the sidelines giving James more playing time.

For what? Kelly already has one of the best backs in the league. What the hell is he going to do with another third string back?

  4. LaMichael James has not shown a lot when given a an opportunity. Plus whom are you going to bench? Gore/ Hunter?

Also don’t forget that LaMichael James hasn’t pass blocked well in preseason which both Gore and Hunter excel at.

I still think he can be used as a PR, KR and in 3rd down situations.

  5. Soon enough, he will be selling insurance-or real estate-or cars-or whatever else the past Oregon players end up doing when their career is over.

  6. yr stuck with that mediocre team buddy, face reality

Wow, if going to the NFC championship game followed up the next year by going to the Super Bowl is mediocre, then I’d hate to see what your definition of “pretty good” is.

  7. Put down the phone and pick up the Playbook dude. Get to the facility early. Get to meetings early. Stay late and talk to the coaches when things calm down in the evening. Harbaugh likes a cold one. Buy him one

  8. Here is some advice for James and other players who believe going to the media in any form is a good idea to air your complaints. Try showing up to work as early as possible and speak directly with the coach about what it will take for you to be a better player. This public style of conversation may work with the youth of today, but it does not cut it with successful coaches and management.

  9. He said he doesnt want to BE insurance, not SELL insurance.

As in BE insurance if someone goes down…

  10. If only we had a GM smart enough to pry LaMichael James away from the 9ers, and a coach smart enough to know how to use him. That fool is instant offense. Something my Raiders need badly.

  11. The last man standing in the poorest draft of this regime. The talent is there in flashes; the super bowl fumble didn’t help, and he didn’t show much in pre-season. It’s odd for the team to use a second round pick to add an explosive player to a corwded backfield, but with all of the injuries this team has had – the depth is needed… badly. They should involve him in the passing game as anyone outside of boldin and davis hasn’t done much. Get the kid in space and see what he can do. This coaching staff has a stubborn tendancy against playing rookies unless they absolutely HAVE to. By this time, he should know the playbook in and out and should be involved in the game plan outside of special teams. He’s got to do his part by showing more than flashes when he gets his chances, albeit few and far in between. Going to twitter is not going to help.

    Amen, brother.

Gantt: “James said insurance. How can I tie that in to an obtuse reference to an unrelated subject?”
Gantt: “I know. I’ll just mention discount double check. Everybody likes that. You guys know where to sent the Pulitzer”

  13. I get what he is saying. Unfortunately for him, the 49ers do not care about what he wants. They are pretty set at RB so there is sharing involved for everyone. If he wants more carries, he has to force the 49ers to give him more carries. Now by twitter but by his play.

  14. Maybe while he’s comparing himself to Aaron Rogers, he’ll remember how long Aaron Rogers had to ride the bench before getting to finally start and becoming a start. There isn’t a lot of instant success in the NFL.

  15. Maximize what touches you do get LaMichael and you will see more play time. If your 3 rushes against the Rams were for 30 yards instead of 0, you may have seen 5 or 7 touches this coming weekend. If you are interested in playing yourself into a bigger offensive role, then you are on the right team, just ask Kaep.

  16. Okay so what is the problem here? Aside from complaining on the Internet’s version of the National Enquirer, I find it encouraging that he thinks he can contribute.

New players come and go and self-advocacy can be a good thing.

  17. I guess he sees lattimore getting healthily and stronger on bench. I say we do a 3 way traded and send him out to Philly and get a wr from someone cause that’s a bigger hole. I would like to see him used like sproles but i haven’t seen the bust of speed from him like some of these other scat backs.

  18. Here is a typical set of downs for James when he was at Oregon.

Up the middle for a 1 yard gain…
Break to the outside for a 40 yard gain!
Up the middle for a loss of 3…
Up the middle for no gain…

This is the NFL, not the PAC12. I used to live in Eugene. Everyone there has a sense of entitlement. Looks like he brought that with him when he left.

This is such total BS. Top to bottom.

  20. I don’t get why he is complaining after 1 freaking game.

He didn’t play the 1st 3 games due to MCL sprain he suffered in the preseason.

He was lucky to escape major injury. They are easing you back in.

It was a blow out game and they wanted to get the hell out of there ASAP. Just look at what happened with Joe Staley.

  21. Yes please call the 49ers a medicore team in just 4 weeks. Call us the underdogs as well. I won’t use injuries as excuses and not having players like Patrick Willis and Vernon Davis not at full health. The 49ers are also missing a lot of key players and their receivers are depleted. Heck, our best pass rusher is rehabbing so he can repair his image and at least he’s man enough to ask for help. Injuries happen in football and it’s the next man up. The 49ers are facing adversity for the first time in Harbaugh’s tenure and when the 49ers needed a bounce back game…they went out there and got it against a divisional rival. So far the 49ers had to play 3 playoff teams and the Texans will be 4. How many teams you know has played 3 straight playoff teams so far? It’s okay…sleep on this “medicore team” because they will be back soon and nobody wants to see this team in the playoffs at full health.

My grandpa was in the Medical Corps in the war. Is this similar to the “medicore” that you are mentioning?

  23. Whoever this RB is probably thinks he is a legend in his own mind. Dude you obviously wont supplant Gore or whomever his back up is…

  24. I still can’t figure out why hawks fans comment on 9er articles… They have absolutely nothing to do with any other team but ours. @beastmode and wilsonwillbreakyou. What Wilson are you reffering too? Hope its not Russell Wilson. That dude isn’t even mediocre, he’s straight garbage!!

@beastmode- we may be “mediocre” so far this season. Your Seahawks have been mediocre to less then mediocre their entire existence.

    ———————————–

Ok, so joemontanafan, based on your infinite wisdom, our “mediocre” (haha by the way) team whooped on your “mediocre” team…. thus by default the “mediocre” Seahawks win.
