Lions will sign Kevin Ogletree

Ogletree

Receiver Kevin Ogletree has gotten an unexpected upgrade to his 2013 season.

Cut on Tuesday by the 0-4 Buccaneers, the slot receiver has landed employment with the Detroit Lions. Per a league source, the 3-1 Lions will sign Ogletree on Wednesday.

The fifth-year veteran had been Tampa’s slot receiver, but the Bucs apparently decided he wasn’t doing enough with the opportunities created by defenses obsessed with stopping Vincent Jackson and Mike Williams.

In Detroit, Calvin Johnson and running back Reggie Bush have become the focal point for opposing defenses, giving Ogletree the chance to produce receptions and yards in the passing game.

Ogletree, who started the 2012 season as the Cowboys’ slot receiver, bolsters a depth chart that recently lost Nate Burleson.
