The biggest injury news to come out of last weekend’s Titans victory over the Jets involved Titans quarterback Jake Locker’s hip, but Locker wasn’t the only player injured by a hit that some thought worthy of a fine.
Jets wide receiver Stephen Hill was hit above the neck by Titans safety Michael Griffin while tracking a pass that was intercepted by Alterraun Verner on the Jets’ second offensive play of the game. Hill did not return to the contest and his outlook for Week Five against the Falcons is cloudy after being diagnosed with a concussion.
Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean reports that Griffin said Wednesday that the league has fined him $21,000 for hitting Hill in the head and neck and that Griffin plans to appeal. The safety shared a picture of the hit that he believes exonerates him because it does not show contact with Hill’s head, but Wyatt’s colleague John Glennon shares another shot that doesn’t make quite as compelling a case for his side of things.
There’s been no word yet on whether or not Jets defensive ends Muhammad Wilkerson and Quinton Coples have been fined for their hits on Locker on the play that ended the quarterback’s afternoon.
