Just as Brian Hoyer had strengthened his grip on the starting quarterback job in Cleveland, he went down with an injury on Thursday night and was replaced by the man he had previously replaced, Brandon Weeden.

Hoyer suffered an injury on the Browns’ second drive on Thursday night against the Bills, leaving the game and being replaced by Weeden, who had missed the last two games with a thumb injury.

On the play on which Hoyer was hurt, he had just begun a feet-first slide when Bills linebacker Kiko Alonso hit him. Hoyer went down awkwardly and hurt his right knee.

Hoyer had been playing well in the early going on Thursday night, but the Browns promptly went three-and-out when Weeden came onto the field. Weeden threw two incompletions, and neither pass was even close to a Browns receiver. Weeden was booed by the Cleveland fans as he left the field.
