Kiko Alonso wins NFL defensive rookie of the month

Kiko Alonso AP

A total of 45 players were chosen in this year’s draft before Kiko Alonso, 25 of them on defense.

None were better in September.

The Bills linebacker was just named NFL defensive rookie of the month, after a stellar start to his career.

The second-rounder is tied for the league lead with four interceptions, and also for the league lead in tackles (though raw tackles are among the most dubious stats kept — but hey, he had a lot of them, so good for him).

He also has a forced fumble, a fumble recovery a sack and four passes broken up, showing excellent ability in coverage.

Well deserved. This kid has looked great so far. And to think there were Bills fans who wanted to draft Manti Teo at the number 8 overall pick before the national championship happened. That’s comedy for you.

Good lesson here. Most of the draft Gurus didn’t have this guy going in the first three rounds, much less the second round. And he probably should have been a first rounder. Good for Buffalo who knew better.

Kiko Alonso – All Beef No Drama!
    Go Bills!

I like the name. Especially since Barkevious Mingo’s stupid nickname that way too many fans & media people are using is Ke-Ke (Kee Kee) . . .

Hoping Mingo is up for D rookie of the year as well as Kiko. I’ve always pulled for the Bills, except for situations like tonight. GO BROWNIES!!!

Should have been defensive player of THE MONTH Period

Another great reason to tune into the game tonight.

I’ll admit, I follow my favorite team exceptionally closely, and get most news about the rest of the team from the mass media…which means mostly hearing about the teams that are doing really well or are just plain popular.

So it is I don’t really know a lot about the Browns or the Bills, except that they both seem to be young, up-and-coming teams with new head coaches. I know Ray Horton is a helluva DC from having had to face him at AZ over the past few years, but….well, tonight is a great time to find out more about a few teams that have been below my radar. Looking forward to it.

I feel like it wasn’t too long ago when “expert” like Todd Mcshay were giving the Bills a C- draft grade..

Much deserved. I watched most of Oregon’s games last year and I said aloud that I didn’t think he would be good in the NFL. Thought he was light in the cakes. But he has made some eye popping plays, man. I was dead wrong about this guy.

And then the “Legend of Kiko Alonso” was born.
    Go Bills!!!!

    @brownoholic

Fair enough…Cleveland is our brother from another mother. Remember the Cleveland Days the Bills held for Browns fans at the Ralph when you didn’t have a team?

You guys deserve better than Haslam.

    Good luck, but not tonight!

anchorbarred, I totally remember LOTS of Browns fans getting on the Bills bandwagon & attending their games between The Move and getting our new joke of a franchise.
