McKinnie surprised by Monroe deal, thinks he may be next

Ravens left tackle Bryant McKinnie didn’t know what to expect when he got a call from team officials Tuesday night.

So imagine his surprise when he got the professional equivalent of a bottle up side the head from Sweet Pea — news that the team had traded for Jaguars left tackle Eugene Monroe.

I got a phone call and got a head’s up,” McKinnie said, via Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun. “I knew about it a little bit before y’all. I was kind of surprised, but I was told the situation.

“This is business, so they’re going to do what’s best for their business. That’s all I can say about that.”

McKinnie said that if he was going to be demoted — psst, Bryant, you will be — he couldn’t rule out another trade, one which would send him elsewhere.

“We’ll have to see,” McKinnie said. “Maybe a trade. Who knows? . . .

“Who says that’s what I’m going to have to adjust to that? It maybe not. We don’t know yet.”

McKinnie said he thinks he’s “getting better and better each game,” but he also hasn’t cashed in on weekly weight bonuses, after he reported to camp overweight. That seems a perpetual issue, and ultimately could be one of the things that nudges him toward the door.

Go get him with a 6th rounder, NYG! Only 2 games out.

McKinnie thinks he has trade value? That’s hilarious.

I just find it impossible to believe that someone would pay you thousands of $ a week, to essentially be healthy, get stronger, maybe better, leading to even more $, and you’d stay fat. It’s not like they’re asking you to chop off a leg. And how fat are you if you need a weight clause anyway?! No wonder this guy has been unspectacular. No drive or even pride.

JEEZ! What team would want to rid itself of a true GEM along the lines of this slob?!

It can “Nudge him to the door” but you’ll have to grease it to get him through it…

Such a shame a talented guy doesn’t care enough to try.

I saw an interview of a Premier League manager in which the manager was being grilled by the commentator about his benching of some star…the manager commented,

“It’s a lot easier to be a commentator than a manager”

That’s roughly my feeling about those who call athletes that have reached the highest level of sports “loafers”, “slobs”, etc.

But if it makes you feel somehow better, by all means continue deluding yourself that you have a clue what it takes to be a professional athlete.

I think that they will put him over on the right side. Oher has been terrible and I think that this is his contract year. McKinnie might do OK on the right; there aren’t as many speed rushes from that side and at least Joe can see when he misses the block.

One thing it takes is to keep your weight at the level you are told. Guess he won’t be the first to suffer from to much food in his mouth disease. Bill

You’ll probably get thumbs down because of your other jabs but this is spot on. I didn’t even know he had these weekly bonuses. I thought (hoped) he could pull it together because the other options were not so good. OK, so yeah, at this point roll him out the door, literally.

He is such a loser!! All that money spent on a cognitively impaired guy who has no motivation to even report to camp in shape after he was cut twice!

I think the Sweat Pea joke has run its course.

Every time you guys write a story related to the Ravens, you bring up the incident.

“Eugene Monroe traded to Ravens. Sweat Peas’ business just got a boost!”

“John Harbaughs’ wife is turning 40! Maybe John should call Sweat Pea for her!”

    seriously…it’s overplayed
