Saints leaving early to beat the storm

NOAA CLOUDS

This NOAA satellite image taken Thursday, October 03, 2013 at 01:45 PM EDT shows a mass of clouds over the south central Gulf of Mexico associated with Tropical Storm Karen, which is moving to the North-Northwest. Scattered clouds with some rain showers and thunderstorms are occurring over the Ohio Valley and western Great Lakes regions into the Upper and Middle Mississippi Valleys. Otherwise, scattered clouds exist for much of the region, excluding the Northeast US, where mostly clear skies are in control. (AP PHOTO/WEATHER UNDERGROUND)

No NFL team is more sensitive to what weather can do than the Saints.

And even though Tropical Storm Karen doesn’t appear to be a big one (although a mild hurricane is kind of like a mild concussion, i.e., one that happens to someone else), the Saints aren’t taking any chances.

Saints coach Sean Payton told reporters that the team was leaving early for this weekend’s game at Chicago, heading out Friday night rather than Saturday to avoid the possibility of weather-related problems.

The Saints had their 2005 season (and far more importantly, their city) destroyed by Hurricane Katrina, so they know all about evacuating. Hopefully, this storm passes without any serious damage, and the only impact is to the Saints’ flight plans.
