B.J. Daniels doesn’t think Seahawks are just toying with 49ers

B.J. Daniels AP

B.J. Daniels, the latest move in the chess match between the Seahawks and the 49ers, doesn’t think he’s simply a pawn.

Daniels, who was claimed off waivers by Seattle after the 49ers hoped to stash him on the practice squad, said he doesn’t think the Seahawks were only interested in mining him for secrets.

I don’t agree with that at all, honestly, because in the draft process, I had Seattle come and work me out as a private workout,’’ Daniels said, via Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times. “So this is one of the places I thought I was potentially going to get drafted. . . .

“That’s all overrated. It doesn’t help at all anyway, to be honest with you. It’s just one of those big, running jokes that doesn’t really mean a whole lot.’’

The Seahawks’ interest in Daniels could well be genuine. Draft workouts can often be an indicator, and Daniels has a set of skills that translate well to what they already do (and he has experience with, from portraying Russell Wilson for the scout team in 49ers practice).

But he also can’t be so naive as to think their interest in him would have been as intense and immediate if he had just been cut by any other old team.

If Jim Harbaugh cuts you in favor of John Skelton when you already have a backup in case your guy goes down, good chance they don’t think a whole lot of you. Sure he made some plays in the preseason, but it was against a bunch of guys who are out of the league right now.

Stupid seahawks I don’t know why every story is about you! We won more games last year so why arent we talking about Colin Kapernick!? Bj daniels is a joke, just like shorty Wilson!! LOL. Kap will school you all in the Bay Area just like its school time and the bell just rung like your bells getting rang!!! #omgtheninersdomanate

Texans are a very good team. They are definitely a play-off caliber team. Their Defense is scary good with JJ Watt and Antonio Smith and when Cushing and Reed is healthy. Andre Johnson, DeAndre Hopkins, and Arian Foster all are better than what the 9ers have. Furthermore they will use Whitney Mercilus to SPY on KraperNoob and his legs. Once KraperNoob’s legs and his scrambling are neutralize, KraperNoob is average at best in the pocket and everyone and their Grand Mom knows this now LOL

If KraperNoob can’t beat the Texans and the 9ers go 2-3, they need to bench KraperNoob and his Fame Game for Skelton, hopefully that will lit a spark in the offense and KraperNoob can grow up and drop his immature over rated over hyped Fame Game.

  5. kylexitron says: Oct 4, 2013 10:20 AM

I’m sure it’s all about playing some game. Never mind the fact that if you wanted to put a QB behind Wilson who looked the most like Wilson physically and by style of play, it would be Daniels. Both are “short” and scramble well. Daniels just needs more development as a passer.

  6. jdubb84 says: Oct 4, 2013 10:21 AM

Yeah cuz Seattle needs him after spanking them twice in a row… C’MON MAN!

  7. wilsonwillbreaku says: Oct 4, 2013 10:22 AM

I liked this kid in preseason. Schneider is no fool. Let’s see what they do with him. Can’t hurt to have a third QB with loads of potential.

  8. trollhammer20 says: Oct 4, 2013 10:29 AM

No offense to the Niners (well, ok, maybe a little), but when you’re allowing an average of 9.67 points per game to a team over the last three meetings, it’s not like you have a pressing need to pick the brain of their former third-string QB for information.

That said, it may be discussed during prep for the game in December, but it will likely be a question or two, and nothing resembling an interrogation.

  9. tinbender2000 says: Oct 4, 2013 10:31 AM

A really stupid move by the 49ers.

  10. whatjusthapped says: Oct 4, 2013 10:38 AM

He’s got a job in the NFL, that’s more than you can say for Vince Young, Josh Freeman, Tim Tebow, and Matt Leinhart, just to name a partial list of 1st round draft picks that are currently out of the NFL. Ponder is likely to join this group soon if the Vikings had any football sense, no proof of that to date.

  11. chawk12thman says: Oct 4, 2013 10:40 AM

Getting B.J. Daniels was a move that was wanted by the Hawks at the right draft pick. He didn’t last so getting him for no draft pick was a no brainer……..and…….getting him and getting under the skin of SF at the same time is a huge bonus.

Long term plan seems to be to carry three QBs for the remainder of the season and he will be the number 2 down the road, if he works out and T-Jack gets another shot at starting for another team. (as he should)

  12. icemamba says: Oct 4, 2013 10:45 AM

This was a terrible mistake. BJ daniels is still raw, but he’s infinitely better than Colt McCoy. Tarvaris Jackson is a capable backup, but the Seahawks have the perfect QB they can develop for the long term. Dude was a stud during the preseason.

  13. praetorian12 says: Oct 4, 2013 10:52 AM

Raw, talented… not ready for prime time. Sounds like Chris Harper AND BJ Daniels. I don’t think the Niners or the Seahawks would waste a roster spot simply to pimp a kid for information on his former team– dude’s got to have potential, too.

…that being sad, I HATE this move… I’ve hated it all week.

  16. truths4all says: Oct 4, 2013 11:44 AM

Just as 49ers decided that BJ Daniels is not anywhere as good in real games as Colt McCoy or Skelton in their calculated chase for the Super Bowl win, the Seahawks’ move show that they also are not really happy with T-Jack and hope that rookie Daniels will be an improvement.

The obvious team weakness for the Seahawks is the backup to Wilson as there is a huge performance drop in his backup. That is why they made this move.

BJ Daniels must have hit the performance wall in the 49ers’ practices for them to have given up on him after he played well against 3rd and 4th stringers in preseason.

  17. adderal says: Oct 4, 2013 11:45 AM

As a niner fan its obvious Sea. know our offense,
you can tell that even from the games we have won. Really they have built their team to mirror our as well as stop it and they’ve done just that the last two games so theres nothing Daniels can tell them that they dont already know.

Im hope full by sunday night we will be 3-2 and they will be 4-1.

  19. djasonoma says: Oct 4, 2013 12:03 PM

Seahawk fans are so one sided. They overreact to any comment made from a 49er fan to defend their position whether it’s accurate or not. Come on group get it together and understand the game because you sure don’t show it. Be honest about plus and minus about your team. That is what a REAL understanding fan does.

  20. wimpyburgers says: Oct 4, 2013 12:08 PM

    Two things I know:
Seattle beat up on Skelton last year in Arizona until he got pulled for Kolb. Also 49ers tore apart the Cards and Skelton the last there meetings.

It’s all about match ups and Seattle matches up well against the 49ers…. so how much are they going to learn from Daniels ?

sometimes these things work out, KC took McGrath from seattle. Seattle then found themselves needing a TE, and had to sign Kellen Davis. meanwhile, Mcgrath is a cult hero in KC, fear the beard. or with the 49ers, Marcus Cooper.

these cuts can be a lot more than just about learning about the other team

this kid looked good in the preseason, this is the issue having 2 really good teams like seattle and san fran, you have a lot of really good players who end up getting cut to go to the PS, and they don’t make it past KC, or JAX, or a division rival

The reality is Seattle wanted Chris Harper on their practice squad because he had potential. He is raw vs a tough WR group but there is a reason we drafted him in the 4th round.

Daniels showed some serious flashes in the pre-season. Not saying I read anything about him in practice but from what he showed in pre-season was playmaking and potential. Any self respecting 49er fan will admit they wanted to see this guy on their roster or at least practice squad. Seattle doesn’t need inside information on 49ers offense, the last 2 games 71-16 total tells you all you need to know.

  40. indigosuccess99 says: Oct 4, 2013 11:10 PM

i have to laugh at harbaugh and the 4o whiners they get there ass kicked twice in seattle and complain about the noise. They only one 1/2 game more than the seahawks and this year kapernick cant find the end zone. They are done and they know it. They are struggling to find something they never had.. Their linebackers enjoy the bar more than winning games and making sacks They will be struggling by the end of the year to find a way to win

What is with all of you immature morons, I am a devout 49er fan, and you still won’t see me drop to this childish level. I’m getting angrier than a lesbian at an all-male review over all this childish name calling back and forth. Fellow 49er fans who are still repping the side of “Seadderall”, “Shehawks”, and whatever else you want to call Pete Carroll, Russell Wilson or the rest of that team, knock it off. You’re repping your Red and Gold fandom with childishness and classlessness. And Seahawks fans, y’all are repping with the same amount of classlessness. We’ve got a stronger history, and your team has owned ours for the last two years. Try to act like you’ve been to the promised land before, and just maybe you will wind up there.

Im a huge Hawks fan, and I agree that Kaep has struggled. I also agree that we have only seen a quarter of the season and he has had two rough games. But not all of that is his fault. His coaches didnt use the run game well enough for him to succeed in those two loses. Now with that said, has anyone else noticed that #7 has no touch pass? Almost every throw he makes is a laser. Yes, he has a strong arm, but you need to be able to have touch on many of the throws required in the NFL. Also, he doesnt keep his eyes down field very well. Kaep hasnt played great, but remember its early and he will improve. From one Seahawks fan to the rest of our (mainly) amazing fan base, lets not count our chickens before they hatch. Last bit, i think the most fitting name for #7 right now is Colon Kraepernick. Cause to this point of the season, he’s looked like, well, poop. Go Hawks!!

Poor baby…still sore about losing to a rookie QB? Still don’t know the rule book? Not surprised, cheese head! According to the rule book, simultaneous possession goes to the offensive player…plain and simple, and all the whining and all the T-shirts ain’t gonna change that! I know, I know…your defensive back had “a preponderance of the football”…yeah, right. Go fine a “preponderance of the football” rule…you can’t…because it doesn’t exist.
