Two weeks ago today, 49ers linebacker Aldon Smith decided to pursue in-patient rehab for substance abuse, two days after a DUI arrest.

Per a league source, Smith is “doing well.” Another source told PFT that Smith has been in touch with some members of the organization, and that their impression also is that Smith is doing well.

There’s no timetable for Smith’s return to the team. He remains on the non-football injury/illness list indefinitely.

Typically, in-patient rehab lasts 28 days. It’s unclear how long Smith will need to get himself mentally and physically ready to return to the field.
