Dolphins grab 13-6 lead just before the half

Ryan Tannehill, Lamar Miller AP

The Ravens said this week that they wanted running back Ray Rice more involved in the offense.

They’ve followed up on that by using Rice more heavily than they did last week, but the results haven’t been much better for the offense. Rice lost a fumble and the Ravens have managed just a pair of field goals through two quarters against the Dolphins. Rice has 11 carries for 26 yards and three catches for 20 yards, but Joe Flacco is just 7-of-14 overall and the Ravens’ run-heavy attack has not pierced the Dolphins defense.

Those six points were almost enough to keep them tied, but Ryan Tannehill and Brian Hartline hooked up on two passes for 51 yards to set up a nine-yard touchdown pass to Charles Clay with 44 seconds to go in the half. That was enough to send them into the locker room with a 13-6 lead on a day that has been dominated by defense. There have been eight three-and-outs and 318 total yards between the two teams.

Linebacker Dannell Ellerbe is questionable to return after a shoulder injury, which could impact Miami’s ability to play the same level of defense for another 30 minutes. Given the Ravens’ continued issues finding momentum on offense, however, it might not turn out to be a huge issue.

HAHA! Ravens have worst o-line in the league.

    5-11

I don’t know that it is dominated by defense more than it is dominated by horrible offensive line play. Particularly by the Ravens. Miami appears to be gaining momentum now while Baltimore just spins tires in the mud. Flacco doesn’t have any time to do anything, but he did miss a wide open Tandon Doss for a would be score.

7/14 for 130 yds, and one huge incompletion. Yikes.

Steelers has the worst line, Ben is a better QB. I thought there was a big completion to smith and Dickson.

The 2013 AFC East Champions are taking it too flacco and the ravens.

Congrats to Joe Flacco for putting up more than the usual 50 yards passing in the half… who says he’s not earning that big contract?

Are you really going to go there? Aren’t you happy with the gift TD to the Dolphins before intermission? You know – the one where the ball clearly hit the turf? :p

I don’t know where to start with how ironic it is for a Steelers fan of all people to claim the Ravens have the worst offensive line in the NFL.

Too bad every week isn’t a bye week, Pittsburgh. The losing resumes next week.

  13. ampatsisahypocrite says: Oct 6, 2013 4:02 PM

All the Ravens had to do was hand the ball off and run out the clock… but hey, when your QB’s making franchise money, you’ve GOT to pass right?

Pick six! Way to earn that big money, Joe.

Ravens beat the only Steeler who can still play, only he isn’t a Steeler anymore! How’s that dark basement, need anything?

Mike Wallace, you are not the Good Hands Man that you seem to think you are! From now on your name is VISINE cause I Drops everything!

  16. jmblosser82 says: Oct 6, 2013 4:26 PM

JMF your $120 million man is horrible good thing you have that much improved defense.

  17. jmblosser82 says: Oct 6, 2013 4:33 PM

Another note, Wallace is a turd, he had something like 5 dropped passes. That’s raven WR numbers.

Mystery solved: Flacco is Marino, and ampatsisahypocrite is Finkle/Einhorn.

No, you are right, the Steelers line is awful. That’s why there’s no comparing Average Joe to a true franchise QB like Roethlisberger. Ben has been winning for years with a poor excuse for a line. Flacco in comparison has had it all cushy soft. Flacco’s finally had to deal with some offensive line troubles and you can see how he’s crumbling. Today he almost blew it with the pick six, and look at his pathetic 50-yard passing performances this season. He’s not even close to being in Roethlisberger’s league.

If you watched last week against Minnesota, it was like Ben had NO line, but still almost brought them back from 17 down. No less than Polian was quoted as saying it was one of the greatest performances he’d seen by a QB. You will never see that out of Average Joe Flacco, who’s fine as long as everything around him is just perfect.

  20. buzzbeaubank says: Oct 6, 2013 5:12 PM

Flacco has never had an OL around him like he did in the playoffs last year, and he’s also never had top flight receivers. I hear Steeler fans propping up Ben for being a two time champ, while his first ring was absolutely won in spite of him, yet Joe is vilified while throwing 11 TD and zero picks on his way to a ring. Ben routinely heaves prayers downfield after being chased out of the pocket, yet Joe is the one throwing “jump balls”.

  21. ampatsisahypocrite says: Oct 6, 2013 9:54 PM

Good lord, buzzbeau dude, I’ve read some clueless posts here, but yours takes THE cake. So Flacco’s never had top WRs? I guess Boldin never really played in Baltimore?

Btw, if you bother looking at the Steelers first Bowl under Ben, you’ll see the only reason they even MADE the Bowl is because of Roethlisberger carrying the team through 3 playoff games when the run game totally disappeared. They don’t even get the CHANCE to win that ring without him. But hey, why not spout off when you don’t know the facts, right?

Flacco wasn’t “vilified” for his last playoff run, it was simply pointed out what an aberration it was. Because up til then, Flacco had never been the driving force behind the Ravens success. Ravens fans love to point out how Flacco “could’ve won” against in the playoffs vs. New England because of a dropped pass, while conveniently forgetting the week before against Houston he was CALLED OUT by his teammates for not pulling his weight. (‘member that?)

Flacco has NEVER had to deal with the kind of OL problems Roethlisberger has. NEVER. It’s not even close. He’s had it cushy compared to Ben. Steeler fans try to tell you guys that, but you of course ignore it.

Ben “routinely” makes ACCURATE throws downfield while so often being “chased” (see, you admit the situation yourself) — Joe DOES throw jump balls. That’s just a fact.
