Hutchinson joins sports agency

The man known for changing teams in 2006 thanks to a “poison pill” could now be in position to help mix up a few of them on his own.

Former NFL offensive lineman Steve Hutchinson, who made it to seven Pro Bowls during his 12-year career, will join the executive team of the Institute for Athletes. Among other things, Hutchinson will advise the agency’s current clients on all professional matters.

“Looking back, I was lucky to play with veteran offensive lineman during my first couple of years in Seattle who taught me how to become professional,” Hutchinson said in a statement issued by the agency. “These guys were not handed anything, had no sense of entitlement, and worked hard for every opportunity and every dollar that they earned. I carried these sentiments with me throughout my entire career, whether as a captain in the locker room or at the bargaining table as NFL Players Association representative. I have learned the business of being a professional football player inside and out over these past twelve years, and I consider it to be a tremendous blessing to have the opportunity to help past the torch to the next generation of players.”

Hutchinson also will be working to grow the agency’s “internal branding division,” an area Hutchinson believes is essential for a career and life after football.

For Hutchinson, it could be an intriguing life after football.
