Jaguars lose Luke Joeckel for the year

The Jags traded left tackle Eugene Monroe because they had Luke Joeckel.

Key word:  Had.

Joeckel has been lost for the season with a fractured ankle, the team has announced.  The injury to the second overall pick in the 2013 draft came during Sunday’s 34-20 loss to the Rams.

With Bryant McKinnie now on the trade block in Baltimore given the arrival of Monroe, maybe the Jags could trade for him.  Or maybe the Jags will make do with what they have and save their draft picks for 2014.

The situation gets no better next week, when the Jags head to Denver for a showdown with the Broncos that already has generated the highest betting line in NFL history.

Wow, I hate the Jags but this sucks for Joeckel. Sorry to hear this

….and that’s why you don’t trade your franchise LT

  5. slowboater1 says: Oct 6, 2013 4:35 PM

I’ll bet a nickel that the Jags wish they didn’t trade Eugene Monroe now.

  6. blacknole08 says: Oct 6, 2013 4:35 PM

Wow… the trade for Monroe for what the Jags got back in return looks incredibly stupid now.

  7. jimbo75025 says: Oct 6, 2013 4:36 PM

Are the Jags in current form really a “showdown” for anyone?

peyton will only play one half next week, that game will be so ugly

  10. serkeljerks says: Oct 6, 2013 4:44 PM

Seriously….close shop and send Blackmon to the 49ers. Let’s be reasonable here.

Good way to sure up the 1st overall pick. It must be a bittersweet moment for a player to be a top 3 pick, but having the Jags picking you. Different owners, different coaches, some new players and they are still a disgrace. Gus, this is why you don’t simply jump at the first team who offers you a head coaching job.

The Jaguars need so much more than a quarterback and a Clowney*

*Clowney has bust written all over him

  13. primenumber19 says: Oct 6, 2013 4:46 PM

The only saving grace as a giants fan this year is that we can’t be the worst team in the league because of the jaguars.

  14. themostlogicalofvoices says: Oct 6, 2013 4:53 PM

Goodell must be using Jaguars themed toilet paper this season.

  15. thegreatgabbert says: Oct 6, 2013 4:53 PM

Rename the team the Jacksonville Jinx.

  16. earpaniac says: Oct 6, 2013 4:56 PM

Wow. Even when the Jags do the right thing, it becomes the wrong thing.

  17. peytonsneck18 says: Oct 6, 2013 4:58 PM

the jags own a top 5 pick in EVERY draft

Bryant McKinney in Florida. What could go wrong?

  20. chief67 says: Oct 6, 2013 5:17 PM

I feel bad for the kid , loses a whole year of experience . He will be like a rookie again next season .

  21. NotoriousKDV says: Oct 6, 2013 5:19 PM

I feel bad for Bridgewater or whichever QB the Jags draft because he’s going to have no chance on this team. I just hope it’s not a David Carr situation where it’s so bad that his career is beyond repair.

Trade Blackmon to the Lions for a 2nd round pick

  24. pzimm7778 says: Oct 6, 2013 5:25 PM

Don’t act like having Monroe would change our fortunes. Does it really matter who goes down? The team sucks. Hopefully after drafting a qb next draft we can begin to straighten this mess. Key word: BEGIN. We are a long way from even good.

  25. peytonsneck18 says: Oct 6, 2013 5:27 PM

at least he doesnt have to see that joke of a team anymore this year, theres a bright spot in this

  26. juradura says: Oct 6, 2013 5:43 PM

    Is there a God?

  27. vanmorrissey says: Oct 6, 2013 5:47 PM

So the dummies think by trading Blackmon it will help? Idiots. They go after the franchise QB then he has Blackmon already in place to throw to. Think a little, dummies.

Not sure why a steeler fan is laughing, they likely got the second pick in the draft with Joekel out, they did have the number one pick locked up. Steelers are the real losers here.

If anybody actually watched the game, Luke was manhandling Robert Quinn before he got injured.

Luke will be just fine when he comes back next year.

  30. mrsmell says: Oct 6, 2013 6:16 PM

Please kill the misery of Gabbert now. Jags actually had a chance in this game, which is quite weird. Sorry Rams fans, your season is another one below .500 again.

    ———————————

Thats a saving grace? the NY Giants have a MUCH more talented roster then the Jags from top to bottom and the same 0-5 record. Not much of a saving grace.. its pretty sad actually..

  32. swagjag says: Oct 6, 2013 6:32 PM

wearesteelers must still be mad the Jags were the first team to win in Pittsburgh twice in the same season.

  33. jcjaguar says: Oct 6, 2013 7:41 PM

What did we do to deserve this?

  34. jcjaguar says: Oct 6, 2013 7:45 PM

Oh and I hate Gene Smith….carry on.

  35. johnnyjagfan says: Oct 6, 2013 8:08 PM

It’s a broken ankle and he’ll miss the season. At least it’s a broken bone and he’s in his early 20′s. He’s probably safer long term on IR than on the field with this bunch.

Blackmon was something today. All the trade Blackmon talk is idiocy.

  36. ravensnation21 says: Oct 6, 2013 8:08 PM

We will trade you Monroe back for a 1st round pick or Blackman. Your choice
