Late Romo interception helps Broncos to 51-48 win

AP

You can’t really ask for a better narrative fit for a player’s career than Tony Romo wearing goat horns after the best day of his career.

On his first 35 throws, Romo completed 25 passes for 506 yards and five touchdowns to keep the Cowboys in a duel with the Broncos on a day when Peyton Manning threw for 414 yards and four touchdowns. On his 36th throw, Romo made his first mistake of the day.

Romo was picked off by Denver linebacker Danny Trevathan on a pass intended for Gavin Escobar and the Broncos were set up on the Cowboys’ 24-yard line with 1:57 to play. The Broncos picked up two first downs, got the ball into position for a 28-yard Matt Prater field goal and walked out of Dallas with a 51-48 victory that will go down as one of the most prolific scoring games in NFL history.

It’s the fourth time that two teams have both reached 48 points (while combining for 1,039 yards) in the same game and Romo’s performance is good for the 12th-best passing day in history. It’s also the most passing yards in Cowboys history, although that’s a hollow record given the way the game ended.

Romo doesn’t deserve the horns by himself, of course. You have to reserve some for a defense that got run over for most of the day and any negativity toward Romo has to be mitigated by the way he kept the Cowboys in the game. Romo completed deep passes, short passes and everything in between, often after extending a play by evading pass rushers and finding a receiver down the field. It was a masterful performance right up until the last throw, something that shouldn’t but probably will be given short shrift in the aftermath of this thriller.

One mistake can be all it takes when you’re playing a team that scores as easily as Denver, though. Their defense was abysmal on Sunday, but it might not matter until there’s a defense that’s more than that on the other side of the ball. There wasn’t on Sunday, so the Broncos are 5-0.

  1. That was ugly! Good thing Romo went Romo. Hopefully the D improves when Miller and Bailey come back otherwise we might end up like the early 2000’s Rams and Chiefs.

  2. This is Romo. He literally goes from looking like one of the best QBs to making a poor decision. He is what he is.

  3. It’s hard to blame Romo. His pick was ill timed as usual, but 48 points should be enough to win any game.

After the pick I don’t understand why not just letting the Broncos score since they were so far in Cowboys territory. They aren’t stopping Manning or blocking a FG. I don’t know who they were kidding. Just give them the TD even if it violates some unwritten spirit rule of the game, get the ball back, and let the offense try for overtime.

  4. Phenomenal game.

Could be the best combined performances at the quarterback position ever.

  5. Death, Taxes, and Tony Romo Chocking in big games, these are the certainties in life! God it’s uncanny, great extension Jerrah!..

  6. Romo is that classic archetype who’s good at everything but winning.

His choke-reel is extensive, all the way back to setting up that kick in the Parcels era. Too many butterflies and no ice.

  7. Sucks for Romo….defense didn’t force a punt all game, and its going to be all his fault, even if it’s his first INT since the first quarter of game 1 😦

    Dave

  8. 7 point lead. 3 minutes in the 4th, Cowboys have the ball and Bill Callahan is calling a PASS PLAY? REALLY A PASS PLAY? Romo should’ve made a better decision but the play calling didn’t help whatsoever. Bill Callahan is to blame

  9. Romo deserves no blame….just as peyton wouldn’t have had the broncos lost. Both defenses looked like trash. It did make for a great game to watch though.

  10. not a cowboy fan, but I was screaming on twitter, why not let the broncos score right away..cowboys had three timeouts plus two minute warning left..

If you enjoy watching the worst combined defensive performance in NFL history, yes.

  12. Yeah, Romo screwed up with the interception. He pressed because he knew that if they give the ball back to Peyton with 2 minutes and field position, the game was over anyway.

The real blame needs to be reserved for Garrett. With 1:47 left and 3rd and 1, he should have told his team to let the Broncos score IF they ran the ball (not on a pass). Is that a tough call, probably. But the alternative is exactly what happened, you never see the ball again and the game is over.

  13. Broncos d is suspect… at best. Even when they get everybody back. Peyton scoring in literally less than a minute with hurry up tds is hurting the broncos d and it shows on the horrendous pass rush they have

  14. All the Seattle fans came out last week to say how much a horrible gift win against Houston said about their team. Where are all the Seattle fans today?

Denver is the best team. Period.

  15. Yeah Romo threw a late interception, but he’d already put up 48 points. If someone wants to grill him for todays game then they show how ignorant they are.

    Great win Broncos!

  16. Say hello to the first place Philadelphia Eagles. If Dallas and Philly split their season series, the NFC Least Division Winner could have a record of 6-10. How sad is that?

  17. Jerry still would rather have Romo than Manning because Romo is less likely to lose in the playoffs!

  18. An Owner/GM plus a Career back up QB turn HC plus a QB that plays like Danny White all adds up to LOSERS.!!!!!!!!! LMAO and LOL. !!!!!!!!! Next Week Will Be Even More Painful Loss. HTTR FOR LIFE.!!!!!!!!

  19. This may have been one of the greatest NFL games ever! Definitely in my top 20! Broncos can and will win with Peyton but their defense is lacking! The Chiefs D is light years ahead of the Broncos and I can’t wait until these 2 teams meet later this year! Should be a primetime game!

  20. I give Romo a pass (pun kind of intended) as he had to throw way to many times to make up for the horrendous Dallas ‘D’. Hell only Manning stopped himself on the Dallas int as he underthrew the receiver. I will say that Dallas is the best team in that division so they will likely be fine barring injuries.

    We shall see…

  21. This crappy, pass happy league is a joke now with turd QB’s routinely throwing for four and five hundred yard games and astronomical scores. Fooled with the rules so much that defenses need not be players, but pylons to simply run around. Does everyone really like this? Terrible.

  22. Man, there’s no other halfway decent team that clowns it up as consistently as Dallas does. Romo and those killer INT’s of his…the guy would be a few big playoff wins away from a possible HOF career if he’d only refrain from saving his very worst for very last. The guy is just star-crossed or something. How can a QB be so utterly brilliant for 58 minutes and so careless in the last two? I can’t think of a single other QB ever who so frequently suffered from the bumbles in big moments like Romo does.

  23. I’d take Romo on my team in a freakin’ heartbeat. I’m not even remotely a Cowboy fan, but you have to give him his props. Sure, he’s human and makes mistakes like EVERY other player, but he puts up numbers! Just because you people out there hate Jerry Jones and his team, doesn’t make Romo a bad QB. He’s one of the best there is today. End of story.

  24. Sorry, Denver … Peyton Manning may scare this Titans fan (after all, same division for more than a decade), but your team does not. See you in a couple months–looking forward to it.

  25. Again all the meth smokers will continue the marketing programming that Mr. Romo is a great QB. We do not believe you. We are capable of defining a good to great QB without your involment. Tony Romo is mediocre. Mr. Romo proves this YEAR in and YEAR out.

  26. Von Miller should be taking a long look in the mirror tonight. It is time he puts his mates ahead of him, vows to realize and remember that selfish acts by any individual hurts the entire roster. It is difficult to believe that his presence in the lineup today wouldn’t have stemmed the bleeding in the porous defense enough to have prevented FORTY-EIGHT points. How will he ever earn the complete trust of the locker room upon his return? Will his mates EVER be able to “uncringe” while waiting for the other shoe to drop?

  27. Did you see Mr Wrinkles and blondie in the stands cheering? Blondie is counting the stamps and Mr Wrinkles is pissed at the stupid contract he gave up. He (Romo) sure as hell performed like Manning, but he could not finish. Stupid America team fans, Mr Wrinkles got all of you fools fooled.

  28. Tony Romo’s football legacy sealed, sent and delivered right there. 0-0 and with the game on the line, he’s the last QB I would want with the ball in his hands. L-A-S-T.

  29. Broncos won this game because of manning check down passes to running backs that were uncovered. Ten yards every play.

Romo exposed the broncos defense as overrated. This was the first team the broncos have played that didn’t have major injuries on offense, or just didn’t plain suck.

If i play the broncos, I would only rush 3. And always have the running back covered. The running backs have been the key to the success of the bronco offense. They drive down to the 10 yard line and manning just throws a pass for a td. There’s no point in rushing four if that means a running back is open for a ten yard gain every single play. And it seems every check down is a ten yard gain because there is nobody near the running back. Manning gets rid of the ball so quickly you may as we’ll drop a rusher into coverage.

    I definitely don’t.

  31. How is it Romo that choked? He scored 48 points. How about the defense that allowed 51 points and didn’t force Denver to punt once all game? When you score 48 points in the NFL, you should be up by 20+.

  32. I do not blame this on Romo, he played a great game. This defense has some serious problems. They didn’t cover anyone. I seen Denver’s receivers get off the line an they were not jammed one time the whole game. What kind of defense let’s people just run free down the field. If this keeps up we r in for a long season. You have to jam the receivers.

  33. Manning always threw an ill timed INT.

No matter which QB threw 1 INT, the blame for either of the teams losing falls on the defense.

You allow that many points and you score that many, DEFENSE wears the goat horns.

  34. I thought the interception was a good pass. It was a better play by the defense. Pass could’ve been a little more in front of the WR with all that said though.

  35. bennyb82:

don’t you first have to get to the playoffs before you can or can not lose in them? no wonder romo has done so well at “not losing in the playoffs.” dude, jerrah would trade romo for peyton in a heartbeat.

  36. No mention of Eli’s 5th consecutive miserable game this season? I know its trendy to rip on Romo but Eli has been one of the worst QBs in the NFL this year.

  38. Denvers defensive play kinda scared me but I think it was more an off day than lack of talent. They stepped and got the ball back when it mattered. The loss of Chris Harris really hurt too without Champ. Cant wait for Von to get back. But its scary that you can throw for 500+ yards 5 tds and score 48 points and STILL cant beat the Broncos. In their first real test of the season, on the road, without momentum the Broncos still found a way to win. These guys have a that magic aura around them. Superbowl winners, nobody can beat them

  39. Someone needs to remind the Steelers fan above that are in the running for a first round pick what is your record again?

  40. And just as I figured, the idiot media and some idiot fans are at work slamming Romo on a pick that was a GREAT play by Trevathan rather than a bad throw. If Travthan doesn’t DIVE TO CATCH THE DAMN BALL then the pass is completed but hey, let’s alter reality to fit the “Romo is a choker” meme instead.

What I find funny is you NEVER read ANYTHING when Teflon Tom Brady throws a pick at the end of a game that seals or results in a loss and you NEVER read anything when Brady has a horrible game when the team loses or even wins and the media talks about how the team won despite his bad play which they do for other QBs who play poorly in wins.

I am sure I could scour the net and there wouldn’t be any articles on Brady’s horribly under thrown ball that sealed the Pats losing today when the game was on the line. Nah, we will just sweep that under the rug since tommy boy never makes bad throws and decisions. Whenever he screws up it’s ALWAYS someone else who is to blame. I am so sick of the damn favoritism and bias the media and many idiot fans have when it comes to QBs.

I guarantee that if Brady made that same pass and the defender made the same diving catch that you’d read (the truth) how the defender came up with a huge play rather than “oh Tom just threw a horrible pass”

It’s as though the media and fans can’t ever accept interceptions can be the result of DEFENSIVE PLAYERS MAKING GREAT PLAYS.

The amusing thing with the Romo pick is Tony was the ONLY REASON the Cowboys were even in the damn game. If he didn’t have the game he had then they’d have been blown out and last I checked he doesn’t play defense and their D was horrid.

But hey, what do I know. Let’s just blame Romo instead of accepting reality. That seems to be the standard among the media and sheeple in today’s world. See the media’s love affair of guys like Obama despite the fact Obama is just a black clone of Bush who the very same morons in the media (and sheeple citizens) slammed.

Edit: as I type this Schaub just threw a pick 6 that was all the defensive player making it happen. I am sure though that all the idiots out there are slamming Matt for it since he has has the recent history of throwing some poor interceptions.

  41. You Romo bashers need your head checked. The guy is a good quarterback. This game should have been a Cowboys win but this defense is not good, and where the hell is Ware. He can’t even put pressure on the quarterback anymore. Let’s hold these so called star on defense accountable. What is Ware, Lee, Carter, Carr, Claiborne, Church,Scandrick,Wilber, Selvie, Hatcher and Sims doing, NOTHING. This was suppose to be one of the best defenses this year and they suck. Romo should not have to carry a team like this.

  42. KNOCK! KNOCK! .. who is there??.Tony …Tony who??…. Tony i will always throw a INT that will cost you the game,,Come on guys you watch me all these years why would you expect a different result.

  43. Romo’s first and only INT certainly came at a critical time but clearly w/o his brilliant play esp. in the second half, Dallas would have been blown out. I saw the game and all you Romo haters out there will get to see the replay on NFL Net this week Watch and marvel. Romo OUTPLAYED Peyton. Period. 5TD’s, over 500yds. and 1 INT. Peyton also had an INT, only 4 TD’s and couldn’t match the yds., QB rating or completion %.

Oh and for you Denver bandwagoners. You gotta a real prob. w/ your D. 48 pts. YOW!

  44. Romo being Romo

Remember when defense was a factor in the NFL ? Its getting ridiculous….level the playing field some

  45. No one cares about Romo’s stats when he throws the back breaking pick or has a fumble every time the game is on the line. Period. No one. And because someone is a fan of a team that is 0-4, 0-5 doesn’t preclude them from pointing out these facts.

  46. For those who see hope in watching Denver’s poor defense today, it’s important to keep in mind they were down 5 starters by the second half — LB Woodyard (defensive captain), CB Harris, DE Ayers, CB Bailey, and LB Miller. Hard to play quality defense when your best secondary players and your pass rushers are missing. Hence Romo having all day to throw and finding receivers when Dallas went to 4 and 5 WR looks. Denver had linebackers and safeties playing CB at that point.

Denver’s defense will be fine — but please enjoy it while the injuries last because you know you have no chance of stopping the offense.

You do realize Manning also ran for a touchdown (giving him 5 for the game), right? Also, Manning had the higher completion percentage. Maybe next time you should check the box score before you start spouting nonsense?

Regardless of the numbers, Manning left with another W (courtesy of Romo’s ill-timed INT)

  48. I actually texted my brother “Romo is getting ready to pull a Romo” right before Dallas started that drive. Its just automatic.

And for the people who continue to make excuses for that guy, there’s no conceivable way he can hold it together long enough to win the 3-4 games necessary in the playoffs to make a Super Bowl run even if they can make the playoffs.

  49. This is two games that Denver D has suffered. If the Eagles could score TDs instead of FGs, it may as well ended up like the Dallas game. Del Rio better step up soon, Manning can only be Manning until playoffs.

  50. Y’all need to stop bashing Romo. He only had the best passing game in Cowboys history.
Where are all you band wagoners crowing how Monte Kiffins defense will win the Cowboys a Super Bowl?
They Ran Rob Ryan out of town yo get Kiffin! Seems Ryan is doing pretty good with a really bad defense in New Orleans. Kiffin is a joke. Romo isn’t the problem. Monte Kiffin is. That’s a fact. THE DEFENSE GAVE UP OVER 500 YARDS!!!!!

  51. He tripped over his lineman’s foot as he was trying to throw, and it forced him to throw behind the tight end. At first, I thought he made a terrible play. After a couple more looks, I realized it wasn’t his fault.

  52. Only QB id take over Romo is P. Manning. Guy is amazing. Romo played a hell of a game and that throw was not a bad one, the defender just made a helluva play!

Grats to Denver on the win!
Grats to my Cowboys for a awesome offensive effort and being there w a chance to win like no one else this year!

Um hello media – I think the Giants have fallen below the “mediocre” meme now – maybe “sorry” or “lousy” or “worst” LOL!

  53. There is a whole legion of you sad little queens who would not have a purpose otherwise were it not for hating on Romo–he played a masterful game–until one play. If he had somehow been injured early and Kyle Orton had been playing–the score would have been 63–70 to 16. He made a terrible decision, again. Nuff said.

When you Romo worshipers stop mentioning his stats and stop ignoring his epic chokes, then we’ll stop.

  55. Romo isn’t a bad or mediocre QB, in fact he’s downright excellent. But whatever the reason, his entire career has been marred by a tendency to directly make or contribute to absolutely galling, ghastly mistakes at the worst possible time.

  56. Yeah blame Roma. Certainly the Dallas defense’s inability to make a stop during the game didn’t have anything to do with it.

  57. Romo threw for over 500 yards and 5 touchdowns, yet the talk is all on him for a loss. Take it from a Saints fan if you score 48 points and lose, it’s not the quarterback’s fault. Romo scored more than Manning, I should know, I played him. He deserves offensive player of the week, but the Cowboys lost, so he won’t. Damn shame if you ask me.

  58. Now watch Skip Bayless/Colin Cowherd make all the excuses in the world for Romo…

then nitpick anything they can so they can criticize Rodgers.

  59. Look, as a 49er fan I hate the Cowboys, but damn I truly feel sorry for Romo.

That being said, I love that Jer-bear spent all that money on him, because he bought an amazing organization and screwed it up. He had a great head coach and traded him in for a two-bit coach from his alma mater… Lastly a very effective General Manager…

  62. Typical Romo. Looks good…….until the key moment, then skunks it up. Shame to nearly have pampers boy beat, only to give him the game. What do you suppose Peyton Pampers will cry about this week?

  63. All you manning blowhards seem to forget about his 9-11 carrer playoff record. Also chocking against the saints, with his only sb being carried by defense and being blessed to play against r grossman. also, denver fans we have seen this act before unstoppable offense remember ne and the rams- defense allowed to play physical in playoffs, you lose

I’d love to know how the play before the Int wasn’t a horse collar, yet the exact same tackle on Pierre Thomas in the saints game today was

Because you can legally horse collar tackle a QB in the pocket. Stupid rule, but that’s the rule.

  65. Best game ever? Goodell has made this league what you saw today, high scoring no defense highlight reel game were ignorant fans are like wow man this is awesome! But really it’s pathetic. Defense is gone

  66. Funny how no one remembers Manning throwing across his body for an interception to loose in the playoffs last year. The 13-3 Broncos loose their first playoff game but Manning didnt get any blame. Nope it was ll the defenses fault remember? People just love to hate Dallas and their QB. Manning is 9-11 in the playoffs which proves its a TEAM game. Romo didn’t get enough on the pass because he wasn’t able to step into it. He deserves some blame no doubt but Dal wouldn’t even be close if he hadn’t played so great. The Dal defense didn’t force a punt, how can you win like that?

All the Eagles and Giants fans need to remember how badly and pathetically they lost to Denver this year. Romo has allot more fourth quarter comebacks than non Dallas fans realize, its just when he does no one talks about it. He had 4 or 5 last season alone.

How many pics does Eli have again, like 13?

  67. Doesnt matter when a turnover happens and when points off turnovers are scored.

Only matters what they added up to at the end. Peyton and Tony both had 1 INT and those offset.

It came down to the cowboys D couldnt force 1 measly punt out of the broncos while we had to punt.

  68. He’s been compared to Brent Favre frequently.

Both of these guys have a uncanny ability to deliver a soul crushing pick late in a game.

Sa ya I guess they are alike.

Peyton has a ring, Eli has 2, Romo hasn’t even sniffed the NFC championship in 10 seasons. Debate over.

  70. The Broncos offense is insane right now…and I watched every down of the 2007 Patriots season. They were awesome, but not quite as easy as what the Broncos are doing…

That said, that Broncos D is a long way from Super Bowl caliber and once the cold sets in, we’ll see if Peyton is the same guy.

  71. Here is the deal folks…

The Cowboys are a pretty good team, but they make mistakes down the line… the playcalling could have been better (start calling run plays while you are up 7 with a few minutes to go, let them score so you can get the ball back with 3 time outs and the 2:00 warning, etc), a receiver or two could have tried a little harder to catch the ball, and Romo could have not thrown an interception.

The difference is, really good teams find a way to overcome all that stuff. Sean Payton and Drew Brees. Belichick and Brady. …9 times out of 10 those duos find a way to win those games. The Cowboys, just as a team in general, are a good team, but don’t have the “full package” coaching+leadership of a real championship team. At least, that’s how I see them. …I view them sort of like the 2012-2013 Atlanta Falcons…tons of talent, but they just can’t put the full package together in the big games.

  72. Looked more like a track meet than a football game. People running loose everywhere. There was, in fact, no D in denver today. Good thing J’ville is coming to town!

  73. Between the Rangers losing, the Texans getting crushed the Cowboys choking and the Longhorns underachieving it’s been a tough week for Texas sports!Should I dare mention the Astros?

  74. If your QB throws 500 and 5 TD’s and you still lose, your QB is not your problem. He should have been kneeling on the ball.

  75. “That being said, I love that Jer-bear spent all that money on him, because he bought an amazing organization and screwed it up.”

Are you drunk? Why is a 49er fan talking about screwed up organizations? lol

“He had a great head coach and traded him in for a two-bit coach from his alma mater”

Two-bit = two Super Bow wins.

    “… Lastly a very effective General Manager…”

He’s won a Super Bowl as a GM more recently than any GM the 49ers have had.

  76. so many people cant decide who to hate more romo or Manning.
If they can play like that the Cowboys should be able to beat most any team in the league 9 times out of 10.
Why don’t they play like that all the time, they were magnificent and fearless on offence, how can you be that for only one week?
    Its kind of amazing.

  77. Look on the bright side Tony. Between your 506 yds, 5 tds and Alshon Jeffrey’s 218 yds receiving I completely obliterated my matchup in my fantasy league. So at least there’s that.

  78. If you watch the replay Murray is wide open in the middle of the field. Two weeks in a row with the game on the line,Romo is throwing to unproven rookies(T.Williams and some guy named Gavin Escobar).Play calling aside you got to go with your stars in these situations.Dez Bryant or Jason Witten.Romo is the present day Vinny Testaverde.Plays great for roughly 57-58 minutes and then at the worst possible time he collapses.Even at his home field!!!Unbelievable.Oh by the way,Jerrah please cut Smiles Austin.Thanks.

  79. I was certainly expecting some type of a fight from the Cowboys but I wasn’t expecting one THAT good.

I am very glad the Broncos got out of Dallas with a “W”.

The enver defense needs to find where the “D” went… and soon !!!!!!!

  80. I see it this way. Denver’s whole philosophy on defense when Von Miller got hurt was to just allow teams NOT to run the ball. And so far stats show Denver near the top in that department. They force you into a shoot out, Dallas gameplanned for it. Denver WON’T allow teams to run the ball and chew up time.

Dallas has a much better defense then Denver right now, Demarcus is probably best in NFC. Broncos offense is gonna put 40 or 50 on you every game. A defense has got to figure out how to keep them around 35 points and it sounds ridiculous, but thats really the blue print on beating them.

So you got to have 4 guys who can rush without blitzing, your offense needs to score over 35 and take advantage of Denver’s mistakes. Dallas is probably the only team in the league that had the fire power on offense and front four on defense to do it. Dallas needed this win more then Denver did, Dallas played their best game of the season so far on offense. No shame

  81. You wanna see the typical mentality of a typical Cowboys fans? Just look at this comment, while realizing the interception was thrown with under 2:00 remaining, and the game was TIED at 48-48. This is how bright the average boyz fan is……

7 point lead. 3 minutes in the 4th, Cowboys have the ball and Bill Callahan is calling a PASS PLAY? REALLY A PASS PLAY? Romo should’ve made a better decision but the play calling didn’t help whatsoever. Bill Callahan is to blame…..

doomsdaydefensetx,,,, just like your team, you’re an embarrassment. go watch dust blow or something.

  82. Every time I want to start feeling bad for Romo, I think about what a pompous jackass Jerry Jones is and I find myself taking pleasure in Romo’s misery.

Schadenfreude. I am not proud of it, but it makes me feel good all the same.

  83. Well, Romo can’t blame that one on Jessica Simpson! He was just being his usual self. I’m sure in that last series, the only thing going through his head was “Don’t screw up. Don’t screw up!”. Distracted himself so much that he screwed up.

  84. Now here’s another great comment from a typical brilliant cowgal fan….

Jerry still would rather have Romo than Manning because Romo is less likely to lose in the playoffs!

Yes bennyb, you’re so right. But the reason that blowmo is less likely to lose in the playoffs is because blowmo is FAR LESS likely to make the playoffs. Can’t lose in the playoffs if you can’t get there, huh bennyb? peace ;]

Romo = One of the best… of the 2nd tier QB’s.

  86. The Cowboys offensive line’s total collapse on that last series of downs is what sealed their fate. But Romo should have thrown it away instead of trying to make something out of nothing.

  87. “If i play the broncos, I would only rush 3. Manning gets rid of the ball so quickly you may as we’ll drop a rusher into coverage.”

rofl.. and then those said running backs would rush for 6 yards a carry

  88. Wow. Nobody has lit up Dallas’ defense like that since….ummm….Philip Rivers LAST WEEK.

Manning was untouched, while Romo was running for his life and making plays on his own all day.

If Manning played behind Dallas offensive line, he would look like his mouth breathing brother, until he was put on injured reserve.

  89. The not too bright will say that this loss is Romo’s fault but he passed for over 500 yards and it was the cowboy defense that allowed 51 points.

  90. I’d certainly take Romo over over-rated spares like Matt Shaub, Cam Newton, Michael Vick, Matt Ryan, Stafford, Cutler, Flaco, Rivers etc etc.

I woudn’t trade him for RG3, or Kaepernick, or any of the other “flavors of the day”.

  91. “Dallas has a much better defense then Denver right now, Demarcus is probably best in NFC.”

Seriously? Manning was untouched yesterday, while Romo was running for his life. Demarcus is old, and is already suffering from his annual “stinger” and back problems. He was not a factor yesterday. They were signing defensive lineman off the street right up until opening day.

    George Selvie?

Jerry Jones built this defense. That’s all you need to know. If not for the brief Parcells tenure, this team would be Jackonsville, and Romo is the only the preventing that now.

Manning did what everyone is going to do that defense this year.

  92. I know Romo threw the interception but when your line is pushed into your face and then your lineman steps on you foot, it becomes a choke job. You guys need to get real. He should have never been in that position if he was getting any help from defense and offensive line. Haters are going to hate, but he played an outstanding game and did not choke.

  93. you all obviously didnt see tyron smith pushed into romos foot when he threw that int. cant put this on romo….. dallas defense is terrible…

  94. To blame Romo is idiotic. He had thrown for 500+ yards and 5 TD’s up until the interception. What more do you want the guy to do? And I’m not even a Cowboys fan.

  95. “Peyton has a ring, Eli has 2, Romo hasn’t even sniffed the NFC championship in 10 seasons. Debate over.”

Rings…So do Brad Johnson and Trent Dilfer…and Marino, Kelly, Tarkington don’t.

    Shut up…debate over.
