Jaguars awarded Stephen WIlliams on waivers

The Jaguars have claimed wide receiver Stephen Williams on waivers from Seattle, the club said Monday.

Williams, 27, appeared in Seattle’s first four regular-season games, playing 51 snaps on offense. The Seahawks waived him on Saturday. Williams (6-5, 208) led the NFL in receiving yards in the preseason (236).

About half of Williams’ regular-season snaps (25) came in Seattle’s Week Three victory against Jacksonville.

In another roster move Monday, the Jaguars waived wide receiver Jeremy Ebert, John Oehser of Jaguars.com reported. The 24-year-old Ebert has played in four regular-season games for Jacksonville in 2013, catching two passes for 10 yards.

the jags havent seen a player yet that they havent claimed off waivers, this is like the 25th player theyve claimed this year, and they still stink

I was excited for Stephen Williams. He really only runs one route but he is fast, 6’5 and can haul in contested balls. Pre-season he looked great against 2nd and 3rd string guys. In live action against starters when he got his couple of chances missed on them. The other negative is even as 4th or 5 string receiver he can’t/ doesn’t want to play special teams.

Glad Jags picked him up because I thought he was going to another WR needy team that is in our division.

Anything is an upgrade for the Jags at this point. This guy has ability, but never seems to be able to put it together on gameday. He looked great in preseason. Maybe he can do something on a team that is desperate for anyone to step up and start making plays.

The Jags are getting better with each Seattle cut.

He’s a beast. If he stays healthy and gets a good QB throwing him the ball he could put up some numbers.

it could have been much worse….the Steelers could have picked you up! ha

    Uh oh! Look out Broncos!

  11. thegonz13 says: Oct 7, 2013 7:50 PM

Any chance they can be awarded a half-decent QB?

  12. beastmode5150 says: Oct 7, 2013 7:53 PM

He’s only good at 9 routes.

Can’t you guys just be happy for a young player with ability that is getting a chance to see increased playing time with a coach who knows his value?!

And as a Jaguar fan, I see no shame in shuffling a struggling roster, mixing things up, and giving up and coming players a chance to maximize their earning potential. No shame at all. Players wanna play. Jax can offer guys that opportunity.

I’m glad our GM is picking up late cuts from good teams (Pats and Seahawks)..I’d personally be more upset if he didn’t change the roster at all.

    Welcome to Jax, Williams…

    ======================================================

Please stop fooling yourself. The Jags get better from every team cut, not just Seattle.

Flynn’s available now, too. Yeah, he got cut by the Raiders, but he’d still probably be an upgrade to anybody else Jacksonville puts on the field.

Can he gain 150 lbs and play OT?

  18. scmems07 says: Oct 7, 2013 8:34 PM

Good for him, May not win but at least he gets to go to a better passing team and get more opportunity than a team that average a league low 24 pas attempts a game with Seattle.

Agent: Good news! You were claimed off of waivers.
    Stephen: Great! Which team?
    Agent: Jacksonville.
Stephen: Noooooo! Can I tell them no?

  20. sguy2130 says: Oct 7, 2013 8:59 PM

I suppose its better than being awarded with Blaine Gabbert

  21. oneandtwenty123 says: Oct 7, 2013 9:21 PM

Maybe the Ravens can trade McKinnie to the Jags – I hear they need a left tackle

  22. wearethesteelers says: Oct 7, 2013 10:59 PM

    Super Bowl?

  23. gudasbeard1 says: Oct 7, 2013 11:19 PM

Now Gabbert can throw the ball 6ft over this guy’s head for his next pick six.

  24. deejayehn says: Oct 8, 2013 12:02 AM

I see the Jags are taking some other teams waiver wire players instead of the Pats…
