Michael Vick expected to miss Sunday’s game with hamstring injury

Nick Foles, Chip Kelly AP

Eagles quarterback Michael Vick is expected to miss a week after suffering a hamstring injury on Sunday.

Vick is unlikely to play this week against the Buccaneers, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

During Sunday’s game against the Giants, Vick grabbed his hamstring and was obviously in pain at the end of a run, and he said afterward that the hamstring was a problem.

“I felt a pop, and I couldn’t run,” Vick said. “I felt a pop. That was it.”

With Vick out on Sunday, Nick Foles will start against the Buccaneers. Eagles head coach Chip Kelly has insisted that Vick is his starting quarterback when healthy, but Foles will get an opportunity to try to change Kelly’s mind on Sunday.

I hope Nick Foles and the Eagles play great .

You have to love that. What a way to test out Foles without being yelled about for benching Vick.

This means were one hit away from seeing Matt Barkley.

I’m not even an Eagles fan, but I have never wanted a player to have a great game more than I want Nick Foles to have one next week.

It doesn’t matter who starts anyways. You can tell the players are very confidant in both. Like McCoy said after the game yesterday, the Eagles have 2 starting caliber QB’s on their roster.

  6. wrongsizeglass says: Oct 7, 2013 12:37 PM

I think most of the Bucs will miss “playing” this weekend as well.

  7. my2cents277 says: Oct 7, 2013 12:38 PM

Vick should be paid by GAMES PLAYED, not seasons! Contracts are useless with this guy! He’ll only play about 8-10 games out of the year anyways!

  8. fordmandalay says: Oct 7, 2013 12:39 PM

Hamstrings take a long time to heal, and Vick’s whole game revolves around his ability to run. Vick as a pocket passer? Um, no. Done for the year? Very possible.

  9. naturalnupe says: Oct 7, 2013 12:39 PM

We all new this day was coming. Vick never finishes a full season.

Death, taxes, and Michael Vick missing at least one game due to injuries.

  11. dolphins4 says: Oct 7, 2013 12:45 PM

Nick Foles is going to be a great starting NFL QB .Vick is fools gold that won’t win you any championship.

  12. ejm845 says: Oct 7, 2013 12:46 PM

if foles plays well and Kelly put vick in when they return to the link look out b/c as soon as vick makes the tiniest mistake the place will be screaming for foles and booing every second vicks is on field this will be fun to watch unfold

  13. newagerocker says: Oct 7, 2013 12:57 PM

Everyone knew that this day was coming. I just wish they didn’t give The Bucs a whole week to prepare for Foles. When Foles comes in for Vick he plays great, when teams have a chance to prepare for him he’s been average. I wouldn’t worry so much if The Eagles D was at least average as well. But, I think this game can go either way. Both teams need the win.

  14. 1uniquename says: Oct 7, 2013 1:00 PM

I think the dog killer is out for the season and I hope Foles plays well enough that even if Vick is healthy he doesn’t sniff the field (no pun intended).

  15. cunninghampeetemcnabbvick says: Oct 7, 2013 1:05 PM

If you think if Foles plays well (which I expect him to do) Kelly will bench him for Vick, you’re fooling yourself.

The biggest mistake Andy Reid made in Philadelphia, was near the end of his tenure he consistently flip flopped on his word regarding the starting QB. From McNabb to Kolb to Vick, he all said at one time they were guaranteed to keep their starting job only to change his mind days later.

This, in my opinion, lead to the QB putting to much pressure on themselves to succeed, knowing they could lose their job suddenly if they don’t perform.

Now if Foles plays well, Vick comes back and stinks, things might change but the window is a lot bigger then some of you realize.

Nick “Napoleon Dynamite” Foles to the rescue!!!

  17. armadaservices says: Oct 7, 2013 1:20 PM

He already said that Vick is the guy for the whole year. He knows that Vick is the most respected veteran in the locker room. Vick has played well. So there is NO CHANCE he takes the keys away from Vick when he is healthy. None. And if Foles plays well, it won’t mean a ton because the Giants suck and TB has already begun mailing it in.

Ditto. I’m a Panthers fan rooting hard for Foles this week – just to make sure the Bucs remain the biggest train wreck in the NFC South and keep the heat off my team. Go Foles, go Eagles!

Get out of the NFL Vick… Your not wanted !!

  21. jdhein22 says: Oct 7, 2013 1:42 PM

Hmmm. Coulda swore that someone was talking about how brilliant Chip Kelly’s innovative training program was to all-but-eliminate soft tissue injuries? I guess we will all just have the shove that meme down the memory hole.

Does anybody know if Vick played a whole season for Virginia Tech?

When teams hava chance to prepare for him he’s been average???? Are you referring to last season, when he was a ROOKIE, with a DEPLETED offensive line and no McCoy or Jackson? Any QB would look average buddy.

  26. steves11 says: Oct 7, 2013 2:22 PM

Everyone knew it was only a matter of “when”, not “if” Michael Vick would get injured and Foles would get his chance. But barring a spectacular performance by Foles this Sunday, the job will still belong to Vick, for now anyway. While Vick is the more dynamic player and can create big gains with his legs, the problem is that he can’t stay healthy long enough for it to really matter over the course of a season. Foles is a competent QB, but not someone who is going to take a team deep into the playoffs. Of course, neither is Vick. Therein lies the Eagles’ dilemma.

  27. bigj9000 says: Oct 7, 2013 2:23 PM

Mike Vick is still an outstanding QB in the NFL!!! All you haters just need someone to hate. Keep hating bro it’s motivation!! GO EAGLES!! Nick Foles should help win this game on Sunday! He makes mistakes too!! By the way Mike Vick will lead them to the playoffs!!!

  28. gochargersgo says: Oct 7, 2013 2:27 PM

This doesn’t even require discussion anymore. How many times have we seen it (Vick and Kolb, Smith and Kaepernick, Bledsoe and Brady)? If Foles plays well, Vick rides pine, its really that simple.

  29. harrycanyon says: Oct 7, 2013 2:29 PM

Of course Vick goin to miss a game. He doesn’t know how to play a 16 game schedule. Never has, probably never will. Kelly would be best to pull the plug on MV and go with Foles. He aboviously is capable of playing in the system. He looked decent when relieiving the fragile porcelainn peice known as Michael Vick. MV has peaked in the NFL, and will never do anymore than he has shown he is capable of.

  30. sb50 says: Oct 7, 2013 2:31 PM

    @eaglesfanalways

I guess Bill Belichick was pretty dumb for keeping Tom Brady as his starting QB when Drew Bledsoe got hurt then.

  31. ace8842 says: Oct 7, 2013 2:41 PM

Vick’s offense is not sustainable. You just can’t run that many times without risking injury. Vick is too much all or nothing, big play, or nothing. He is not a chain mover. Foles had more completions in one drive than Vick had in almost the entire first half (7 to 6). Foles got more people involved. People forget but Foles played last year without his best 3 offensive lineman, without DeSean Jackson, without LeSean McCoy for 4 games, without Jason Avant for one, without Celek for one (and he was banged up the rest of the time). No one would have succeeded in that situation, a rookie thrown in without preparation in the middle of the year with a team that had quit on the coach.

  32. officialgame says: Oct 7, 2013 2:48 PM

After watching that game it is hard to understand how Eli won two Superbowls? Gomer Pyle would be an upgrade at this point. The Giants must haves used up 50 years of luck in those two seasons.

  33. doctorart2013 says: Oct 7, 2013 3:02 PM

Foles looked good, the 2 TD throws were right on the money. If he plays well against the Bucs Sunday it might be over for Vick in Philadelphia.

  34. bigblu73 says: Oct 7, 2013 3:03 PM

Well if you’re impressed by 3-8 yard dink and dunk passes then Foles is undeniably your guy!!! Problem is this week he won’t be playing against the Giants defense and the Bucs will have had an entire week to prepare for the the Eagles to go from the #1 rushing offense to the nonexistant poor excuse of a rushing offense the Eagles are without Vick. Ask Shady what the difference is like rushing with Foles compared to Vick. BTW Vick leads the league in plays over 20 yards this year. Revis, Golston and Co. will feast on Foles this week, Book it!!! Eagles still may win because Foles atleast is not Glennon!!!Haha….

Nobody loses their job because of an injury – they lose it because their replacement played better than they did.

  36. skinsfanwill says: Oct 7, 2013 3:36 PM

the QB position was never the problem in Philly. Neither was the offense. It was the defense not being able to stop anyone. It’s the same team with or without Vick until they make some changes on defense.

  37. gopblows says: Oct 7, 2013 3:53 PM

You LOSERS have been saying for 14 years that Vick has been figured out…..ha ha

  38. gopblows says: Oct 7, 2013 3:57 PM

Is there a stat for the number of pocket passers that have come and gone since Vick was drafted?

Talking about irony, people were saying Vick runs too much and won’t last 3 seasons in the league and he has out lasted all those non mobile pocket passers……ha ha
