T.Y. Hilton: Browner’s insult made me flip the switch

Brandon Browner, T.Y. Hilton AP

Colts wide receiver T.Y. Hilton had himself quite a day against the Seahawks on Sunday, catching five passes for 140 yards and two touchdowns in a 34-28 victory.

According to Hilton, the impetus for his performance came from Seahawks cornerback Brandon Browner. Hilton said that Browner told him that he was “light as [expletive]” early in the game, riling up Hilton and leading to a performance that included a 29-yard touchdown pass that came after Hilton’s lightweight frame blew past Browner.

“[Browner] made me hit the light switch that nobody’s seen,” Hilton said, via Jarrett Bell of USA Today. “He made that decision. So they should blame him.”

Hilton also said he found it “disrespecting” that the Seahawks tried to cover him one-on-one for much of the day, although it’s going to be hard for defenses to provide extra help against both Hilton and Reggie Wayne. That bodes well for the Colts offense to keep adding wins to their 4-1 start.

Hilton added that he didn’t hear anything all day from the normally voluble Richard Sherman, who “wouldn’t even look me in the eye.” Perhaps he got the message from Browner that it’s best to let Hilton find his inspiration from something other than trash talk.

I know being this good is unprecedented in the pretty laughable history of the Seattle Seahawks. But maybe the Seahawks players and their fans should learn that trash talking and arrogance won’t win them a Super Bowl. It just paints a bigger target on their back.

Considering Seattle was out 3 linemen and a starting TE, they pretty much thrashed you on the ground. 200+ yards rushing. Indi won’t get lucky every week.

I am a Hawk fan and TY Hilton is the reason they won so he can talk because he earned it. Sherman has talked after games but he backed it up and we’re all behind it too.

Reggie Wayne was limited. As well as the TE which we have struggled with this year. Lets be real here, the defense got beat the same way they did in the Detriot Lions game last year except Hilton was the Titus Young.

Your insulted by your weight, that made you play hard? Maybe you should figure out why your switch isn’t always on. Plus, why complain about Sherman not talking? He talks and the diva WR’s complain, he is silent, they complain. What’s it’s going to be, talk or no talk? On a final note, most of this guys yards came on one play with a blown assignment by Thomas. It happens. Still the best secondary in football.

I swear you try the same post on every Seahawk article. Obviously you weren’t watching the game. Seattle was whipping the Colts and off to a great start. One blown zone coverage and a long FG blocked for a return was enough to be the difference in a game. The Colts earned the win.

I am not a Colts fan. I hear the same thing from fans every week when their team loses. “You got lucky” “The only reason our team lost was _______” (fill in the blank). Same people that can’t except defeat. Make excuses when their team loses or they make a mistake. Always someone else’s fault. Quit being a whiner and face the music. The Colts beat the Seahawks fair and square. The Colts look really good this year. Just admit it and shut your trap.

I can make up excuses too. The Niners just stomped the Texans who almost beat Seattle and really should have. So I guess that means the Seahawks are in for a long day when they travel to Candlestick Park. I’m not a Niners fan either.

We can all use rationales and generalization to make us feel better, but some of us are strong enough to accept defeat. Kudos to the Colts for a win over a tough team.

They don’t have a clue where Seattle is on the map, don’t know how big Seattle is, have no idea what the actual “away” record is, don’t know the roster, don’t know who and how many players were using PEDs compared to other teams in the league and of course can’t be expected to actually, you know, take the time to learn.

With the Seahawks leading the league in PED suspensions the last few years, you have to wonder how many new suspensions are coming now that the nfl will be cracking down on testing due the revelations of the Von Miller investigation. Anyone on the west coast who follows football is familiar with the “loose ship” Carroll ran at USC. Seattle is a PED explosion waiting to happen.

If the Colts showed up to Seattle and did the same thing I’d give them the better team status. All we got out of this game is that the two teams are pretty evenly matched. Indy has an edge at home and Seattle would as well. Maybe we’ll get to see them play again in February when Peyton chokes in the playoffs again. If that happens I can pretty much guarantee Browner will get a unsportsmanlike conduct penalty for ripping TY to the ground by his helmet… if he can get close enough to him.

The rest of the posts seem to be about one of two things. The hawks DB’s running their mouths and most everyone outside of Seattle hate them for it or the NFL having a major hard on for Andrew Luck and having the officials help him as best they can without being too blatant.

  67. sweetnlow44 says: Oct 7, 2013 4:27 PM

Wait, so Browner is the first person to talk trash to Hilton this year? I find that hard to belive. Dude got lucky on a bomb with blown coverage. Other than that, his stats were mediocre. Some athletes just shouldn’t talk. Unfortunately, he sounds even more rational than most of the Seahawk bashers on pft who think that because the Seahawks lost by 6 on the road to a playoff team that they’re a horrible team now.

First off I am glad the Seahawks lost. Pete Carroll is almost unbearable to watch. Take a page from Tony Dungy and Bill Belichick and coach with some class. He looks like a cheerleader with early onset dimensia and his players take after his personality. This isn’t USC anymore Pete. Also Seattle just has an extremely unlikable team, whereas the Colts have a very likable bunch and a good coach. I live with Rams fans and for years have heard about their disdain for Seattle; not because they field good teams, but because of the way they represent themselves. They lose a game in which they played well, but not just well enough and still blame it on the refs or other variables that are out of their control. Newsflash, Sherman and Browner should be called more and more for PI, but they aren’t.

Seattle has a good team, but please don’t try and spin this as tough luck (no pun intended). They were outplayed and out-coached. Luck was better than Wilson when it counted and your defense is not impenetrable. This was a GREAT game to watch and I think both teams are primed for postseason runs.

  70. adderal says: Oct 7, 2013 6:47 PM

That is the best secondary I think, and I hate all the crap they talk but really with the rules geared towards not touching the offense its amazing that they are that good. That being said with the size of those guys I think there shelve life is less then the normals sized corners so enjoy it while it lasts.

Really guys like Lott and Tatum would not be allowed to succeed in todays league. Sad

It’s shocking to me how many people think it was Sherman who got burned on Hilton’s 73-yard TD.

    It was Zone coverage.

I’m pretty sure Sherman refused to look Hilton in the eyes because T.Y. would have fallen on the ground, raised his hands and drew a Pass Interference call. So sick of receivers doing that.

Really wish NFL officials would determine the correct criteria for what is interference on both offense and defense.

Would really like to sit with them and understand why Golden Tate is called for OPI on his 40 yard catch and Reggie Wayne is allowed to stiff arm Brandon Browner on the Colts successful two point conversion.

Saw Steve Smith get routinely mugged against Arizona with no flags thrown.

Can we at least get a little consistency? Seems these types of judgement calls have a tendency to only go against the Away teams.

The colts got screwed on calls just as bad as the Seahawks. Luck was basically punched in the head on a fumble and wasn’t called. DHB was held on EVERY SINGLE play. The hawks safety is obvious, he juggled it a bit. Thats not debatable. And the Sherman PI on Hilton was absolutely the right call lol how can you say it wasn’t. I don’t wanna hear about the Hawks injuries. The colts were missing 2 lineman, their number 1 AND 2 RBs, their number 1 TE, a top D lineman, their pro bowl safety. Their first round LB. Their starting fullback lol the colts are one of the most injured teams in football at the moment. And I don’t wanna hear about the Seahawks lost because of their road trip. Indy had to go just as far. Indy went from Indy, to San Fran, to Florida and back to Indiana in 3 straight weeks. Hawks fans just need to give credit where it’s due. Indy won that game, they Earned that win. They made more plays. Simple as that.

Had to come back and won by less than 7 at home despite Seattle missing half of their offensive line (incl. tight end) and their best receiver (Harvin).

And they needed help from the refs to do so.

Not too worrisome. Second game in a row traveling and playing early.

    2 – 0 at home.
    2 – 1 on the road.

Yeah, schwab handed you the game last week after he texans physically whooped you for 40 minutes, and you had to come back in the 4th to barely win in Carolina in week one. Better hope to win home field throughout the playoffs, otherwise you’re incrediblly average on the road….
    ===========================

One team with more road wins than Seattle this year.

    Now wipe your eyes.

it sounds like the refs didn’t let brownstain and dick sherman play bump 40 yards off the scrimmage line. colts must have earned some serious respect to get that special treatment.

You Seattle blowhards are just to damn funny! Win something that matters and then you will have earned your right to talk all this lame BS you all been talking this past year up to now, same goes for your loud mouth CBs who show up one game and disappear the next. No one and I mean not one elite receiver is scared or worried bout Sherman or browner period!

Considering Seattle was out 3 linemen and a starting TE, they pretty much thrashed you on the ground. 200+ yards rushing. Indi won’t get lucky every week.

Doesn’t matter, they did this week…

Seahawk Fans, stop telling us about players missing due to injuries. That’s called whining and is disrespectful to your guys that are playing. Brady is 4-1 with a bunch of former Home Depot employees catching balls. Indy is 4-1 with one of the youngest rosters in the league. Show some class!

At first I found it strange how an article about a colts receiver and some words from Brandon browner Drew so many comments about how Richard Sherman isn’t very good. But then it hit me, people talk about great players no matter what Tue venue, and the talk is polarizing indeed. All this shows is that Richard Sherman is a stellar Cornerback
