Julio Jones’s season has come to an end.
Jones, the Falcons receiver who is leading the NFL in catches, will have surgery next week, Chris Mortensen of ESPN first reported, and PFT has confirmed. The surgery’s recovery time will cause Jones to miss the rest of the year.
The loss of Jones is devastating for the Falcons, who are already one of the most disappointing teams in the NFL. At 1-4, the Falcons are already four games behind the Saints in the NFC South, and losing their best offensive playmaker virtually guarantees that the Falcons won’t be able to catch up.
Jones suffered the injury in Monday night’s loss to the Jets but played through it, even making a sensational one-handed catch for a 46-yard gain after he had already suffered the injury that would finish his 2013 season.
Now Jones will have surgery and focus on getting ready for 2014.
