NFL Security looking into incident at Schaub’s house

Schaub

The decision of the Houston Police Department to not send officers to the home of Texans quarterback Matt Schaub doesn’t mean nothing happened. Something did, and by all appearances the original report from SportsRadio 610 was accurate.

The league office tells PFT that NFL Security has been in contact with the Texans and the Houston authorities.

“This is a little unusual in that we don’t normally have fans acting in this way, going to a player’s residence that sort of thing,” NFL V.P. of security Jeff Miller has said, via our friends at SportsRadio 610 in Houston. “In this case, Monday afternoon, a vehicle pulled into his driveway, an unidentified individual yelled obscenities. The police department is involved. We’ve been in contact with them as we normally would for anything like this. And because it is a team issue, they have a security director, we work with them.

“In this case, they’ll be working closely with the police department. But it’s going to be investigated and handled seriously by [the] Houston Police Department.”

While the tweets from the Houston Police Department seem to be a bit dismissive of the original report, the information from Miller and the Houston Police Department actually corroborate the original report.

The original report was that a fan “went to [Schaub’s] house and told him off.” Miller says “an unidentified individual yelled obscenities.”

The original report was that another fan took pictures of Schaub’s family. The Houston Police Department said that a “family member reported seeing a suspicious male in the driveway of the residence taking pictures.”

It’s unclear why the Houston Police Department felt compelled to make the initial report seem stronger than it was, only to then knock it down.

Maybe the authorities are simply trying to sidestep the obvious question that arises from these facts: Why in the hell didn’t you send a cruiser to the home?
