The Vikings signed a pass-rushing defensive end to a contract extension which could cover the practical length of his career.

No, not that one.

The Vikings have signed defensive end Brian Robison to a four-year extension, according to Tom Pelissero of USA TODAY.

The 30-year-old Robison has 31 sacks in seven seasons, and has become a useful part for the Vikings.

Of course, the bigger question is when or whether they do a deal with Jared Allen, who like Robison is in the final year of his contract.

Allen has said he has “no beefs” about his current situation, which pays him in excess of $14 million this season.

But after an offseason when veteran pass-rushers didn’t break the bank, the Vikings might be willing to let Allen see what’s out there, and find out if the grass is greener. If it’s not, they can always bring him back, for something more in line with the current market than the one Allen signed his last deal in.

Vikings defensive tackle Kevin Williams (along with Fred Evans) is also scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the year, and they used one of their three first-rounders this year on Sharrif Floyd.
