New charges filed against retired Cowboy Josh Brent

Josh Brent

NFL Dallas Cowboys player Josh Brent leaves court in Dallas on Friday May 24, 2013, after a hearing to determine if he violated the terms of his bail. He is facing intoxication manslaughter charges in the Dec. 8 crash that killed Jerry Brown Jr., a Cowboys’ practice squad player. He’s been free on $100,000 bond, but prosecutors say he violated the terms of his release by setting off an alcohol monitoring device and failing to download data from it as required. Judge Robert Burns said Friday that he would not raise Brent’s bond, but ordered extra alcohol monitoring. (AP Photo/Mike Fuentes)

Former Cowboys defensive tackle Josh Brent now faces more charges related to the death of his old college and pro teammate Jerry Brown.

According to the Associated Press, a grand jury has added a second count of manslaughter to the previous intoxication manslaughter charges.

The additional charge would allow Brent to be found guilty even without being found to have been intoxicated, and Brent’s attorney George Milner said he wasn’t surprised by the decision.

Brent “retired,” this offseason, but that’s a moot point with him facing a possible 20 year sentence.
