Police investigating Deion Sanders for assault

Hall of Fame cornerback Deion Sanders has from time to time faced controversy away from the field or the TV studio.

Controversy has landed on his doorstep again, via an allegation that he assaulted an employee of the Prime Prep Academy.

According to Christina Rosales of the Dallas Morning News, police are investigating claims made by Kevin Jefferson, an employee of the charter school.

“He walked back to the back of the classroom to where I was sitting in a desk,” Jefferson told the Dallas Morning News.  “As he got closer to me, I stood up because he was kind of standing over me and he just kind of kept talking to me and at me and then he just grabbed me by my throat and kind of threw me to the ground.  Some people had to get him off of me.”

Jefferson explained that Sanders got “a little upset” and “a little emotional” after Jefferson and Sanders got into a verbal disagreement regarding Sanders’ concern that some of the student-athletes at the school were struggling academically.

“I’m going to pursue my options with my attorney,” Jefferson said.  “I just think it’s unacceptable in a professional environment particularly at a school for that kind of behavior to go on.”

Dallas police have not yet released any information regarding the alleged incident.

I’m not shocked by this at all. At all. Throw the book at him.

  5. 619sdfan4life says: Oct 10, 2013 1:55 PM

“Explore my options”….so you really just want a payday. I’m sure you didn’t say anything to him either. And when he stood over you, you kindly told him to back up and showed no aggressiveness at all. BS JEFFERSON

He finished him off by high-stepping him as well.

  7. thestrategyexpert says: Oct 10, 2013 1:55 PM

None of this would have happened if all the students were armed with whistles.

I often wonder how many people would engage in lawsuits if there were no cash reward involved. I am not talking right or wrong here, but more about the legal system as a whole. If the end part of a lawsuit like what this guy is doing above with Deion was “we will either put him in jail or not based on the evidence” and no money were involved (other than loser pays court/legal fees), would these people be pursuing a lawsuit for what is basically an injury to their pride?

  9. 619sdfan4life says: Oct 10, 2013 1:58 PM

If it’s justice you want then just press charges for the assault, and don’t worry about the monetary part. That will show what this really is about. Cause if I pushed you I can assure there would be no money involved in your journey “to pursue options”… Prob deserved it Jefferson. Idiot

  10. geniusry says: Oct 10, 2013 1:58 PM

In other words, “give me money.” The wussification of America continues.

  31. armoderate says: Oct 10, 2013 2:35 PM

Some reason I got to believe this kid provoked Sanders. Sanders should have recognized the “provocation play” and trotted off the field (i.e., get the Principal or in charge person and had the kid removed).

  32. oakfolk says: Oct 10, 2013 2:40 PM

Ain’t it a little punkish to call the cops after being thrown down after an argument? Please say yes America. If the answer is no, then times have certainly changed.

    This is a money grab.

  33. bobzilla1001 says: Oct 10, 2013 2:47 PM

Sanders would do anything to stay in the spotlight and keep himself relevant. He and the kid probably worked out a deal to split the lawsuit winnings… 90/10 of course.

  34. annes22 says: Oct 10, 2013 2:47 PM

What the heck is Deion Sanders doing in a classroom??

  42. blackandbluedivision says: Oct 10, 2013 2:54 PM

Come on. This kinda stuff goes on all the time. If he wasn’t “Primetime” there would be no need for lawsuit. He would have hit him back. Man up!

Frivolous lawsuits like this will never end until we go to a “loser pays” system. If one person (or company or government) sues another person or entity, whomever loses pays damages plus the legal fees.
This will give people pause before they sue.
But lawyers will like it b/c they get paid anyway…..unless we institute a system where if the lawyer loses they don’t get paid type of system.

Most people don’t know a lawsuit is frivolous until they are told so by their lawyers. Who will tell them such, because they know they won’t get paid when they lose? But, now that they get paid regardless, they will be more than happy to take you on as a client. It’ll help pay the bills.

Since this is an at-will charter school, I am sure the employee was immediately fired. Which means no salary or benefits. This is not about Deion the football player but about this mans livelihood. Since Deion is employed at the school. His position is not on a NFL field but puts him as another employee at the school. I am sure since the board his all apart of his “Truth” family everyone came out of that room and didn’t see a thing. I don’t blame the guy for getting a lawyer. With this schools salaries being substantially low(22k starting and 47k for administrators) to be choked by Deion was a slap in the face.
