Report: Antonio Cromartie suffers non-contact knee injury in practice

Jets Falcons Football AP

Antonio Cromartie has been a steadying presence in the secondary of the New York Jets following the departure of Darrelle Revis to Tampa Bay this offseason.

Now the Jets are nervously awaiting the results of an exam after Cromartie went down with an injury in practice.

According to Rich Cimini of ESPNNewYork.com, Cromartie suffered a non-contact knee injury in practice on Thursday and was taken for an MRI examination. The injury has the team “concerned.”

First-round pick Dee Milliner has missed the last two games with a hamstring injury and isn’t expected to play this week against the Pittsburgh Steelers. If Cromartie’s injury is serious, the Jets will have to go with Kyle Wilson and Darrin Walls at cornerback. Isaiah Trufant would also likely be called upon to serve an increased role.

Cromartie has missed just one game in his eight-year career.

UPDATE 1:19 a.m. ET: Per Cimini, Cromartie’s MRI revealed a hyper-extended knee and the injury is not considered to be serious. However, his status for Sunday’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers remains in question.

Those non-contact knee injuries are usually the worst. That’s exactly what happened to Revis.

Pitt fans should be worried about Levi Brown at LT. That 7 PTA the other way every game. Jets may have lost a player but gained one for this game. Have fun Pitt. I watched that fool for years…and it never gets better.

As a dolphin fan, I hate the jets. But I will do two things:
    1) admit I was wrong about Their ability to win or stay in close games they lost.
    2) say congrats to Geno for how well he played.
Oh, and nice game and win against Falcons!
