Patriots linebacker Brandon Spikes was fined $7,875 for wearing red shoes in Sunday’s loss to Cincinnati, the NFL confirmed to PFT on Friday.

Spikes, 26, recorded a season-high 12 tackles against the Bengals and also intercepted a pass. The 12 stops were his most in a game since 2011 and the second-most he’s made in a regular-season game.

A fourth-year pro from Florida, Spikes has made 225 stops in 40 regular-season games (31 starts).

The fine was a dollar for every fleck of red pigment on those shoes. They counted twice to be sure.

The high cost of Brandon’s spikes.

Yes you keep making an idiot of yourself claiming a 6 point win is destroying someone.

Its pathetic that the Bengals have been so bad for so long that their fans look at a victory by such a small margin as destroying another team.

You can’t blame doctorrusbelt. He has been waiting decades to say that. Now he can sit back and wait another few decades until the next time.

Maybe the red shoes will match the uniform of whatever team Spikes plays for next year.

And yet, he will be shocked and amazed when he is broke three years post career. I am continually AMAZED at how little concern, and WORSE, how little insight so many players have concerning their economic future. It is as if they can’t visualize a time in life when their Monopoly-sized paychecks abruptly cease heading their way. What if, for instance, rather than blowing this “paltry” $8,000, Spikes put this, together with a measly $2,000 more into any kind of savings account and let the magic of compound interest accrue over the next thirty or forty years? That amount ALONE would be substantially larger and would be there for HIM long after he has forgotten how STUPID he was when he flushed his hard-earned cash down the toilet over SHOES! I’ll bet TO and Sapp wish they had put away “small” amounts of THEIR Monopoly Money when THEY were making it. One simply cannot fix STUPID.

Didn’t Fred Jackson get fined the same amount for taunting?(FYI,it wasn’ta taunt) So a uniform violation and taunting are equal in the eyes of the league? Ridiculous.

The story I read before this was that Adrian Peterson’s 2-year-old son died. While I know the two stories are not related, it also makes you realize that the NFL has its priorities upside down. They’re freaking red shoes!

Really? A fine for wearing red shoes? That NFL organization must be really hard up for money.

I would try using the “c’mon they are dark pink” excuse.

While the NFL isn’t totally sure they are performance enhancing devices, they LOOK faster.

But if Aldon Smith drives drunk for the manyith time, nearly killing many people, the league looks the other shoulder and let’s you play the next game, before going to rehab. The NFL is on top now but is digging its own grave with making news with things like this.

He only gets a fine for wearing red shoes? What an unbelievable scumbag– should be at least a six-game suspension. It’s atrocious behavior like this that’s destroying our nation’s proud football tradition.

You can bring guns into the locker room but watch your damned shoe color!

  24. 4pats9 says: Oct 12, 2013 12:19 AM

How stupid is the NFL? I’ve seen Brady sporting rouge treads.

The League could get a ton of money if they dropped this kind of nonsense and started fining players for being ugly.
Some players would end up having to pay to play the game.

  26. lolo376 says: Oct 12, 2013 10:15 AM

Next, they’ll start dining players for ugly beards and long tangled up hair

  27. sweetnlow44 says: Oct 12, 2013 11:07 AM

isn’t red part of the Patriots color scheme? If so then I don’t see how the nfl can have a problem with this.

Poor Eric Wright would be broke in a matter of weeks. And Eric Winston would need to take out another mortgage just to step onto the field each Sunday. And while you’re googling their pictures make sure to look up Eric Winston’s wife Jenny Winston. There is no justice in this world.
