With 51 points scored in five games, the Jaguars are obviously desperate for points.
We may find out how desperate Sunday in Denver.
According to Ryan O’Halloran of the Florida Times-Union, Jags kicker Josh Scobee is excited about kicking in the thin air at elevation, after hearing that kickers can add 10 percent distance per kick there.
“I’m going to try and hit an 80-yarder downwind in warm-ups,” Scobee said, perhaps joking and perhaps not. “I’m going to give it a whirl.”
In his only other game there, he hit a 48-yard field goal and had three touchbacks in five attempts (when kickoffs were from the 30). His career long is a 59-yarder in Jacksonville.
“We’ll see,” Scobee said. “It all depends on the wind. If it’s 60 degrees and the wind is down, a 65-yarder is definitely not out of the realm of possibilities.”
The Jaguars getting close enough to try an 80-yard field goal might be, but keeping it out of the hands of Broncos returner Trindon Holliday is obviously a sound strategy.
