Kellen Winslow suspended four games for PED violation

Rex Ryan , Kellen Winslow AP

If Kellen Winslow was unhappy about his reduced role last week, he’s going to be distraught with himself for the next month.

The NFL announced that the Jets tight end was suspended four games for violating the league’s performance enhancing substances policy. He’ll be eligible to return Monday, Nov. 4.

The Jets had listed him as doubtful earlier today, and coach Rex Ryan said his absence had been excused. Now we know what his reason was, and why he’ll miss the next month of games.

  7. bucrightoff says: Oct 11, 2013 4:08 PM

The guy uses PEDs yet can never practice at all. Must be the worst PEDs ever.

Winslow was on PED’s? REALLY?!?!? Imagine how awful he would be if he wasn’t on them!!!

He was a loud mouth narcissist in Cleveland and apparently still can’t seem to avoid “doing his own thing” regardless of the consequences. The Browns should have voided this clown’s contract when he launched himself over the handlebars of his motor cycle back in ’05. See? No consequences for bad behavior, no change in behavior. As Steeler linebacker Joey Parker once noted about Winslow, “What’d he ever do? What’d he ever win? He just TALK.” Exactly. Sorry you had to learn it the hard way, Jets fans.

  19. dpdonny says: Oct 11, 2013 4:17 PM

PEDS? He should ask for his money back. The “E” didn’t work.

  22. jtumen88 says: Oct 11, 2013 4:17 PM

well that was stupid, kellen. this opens the door for zach sudfeld now, remember the jets snagged him off waivers from the pats. david nelson had a few grabs on monday night as well. he should see his snap count increase also…he’s pretty underrated

  23. harrisonhits2 says: Oct 11, 2013 4:17 PM

Winslow’s knees are shot without the PEDs and HGH to keep them in one piece.

  24. steelerben says: Oct 11, 2013 4:19 PM

  30. EJ says: Oct 11, 2013 4:22 PM

I always wondered about him. There was times where he was on the field and looked unstoppable, and other times where he looked genuinely average at best. Damn PED’s!

  32. ilovefoolsball says: Oct 11, 2013 4:23 PM

I don’t understand why this happened. Soldiers are allowed to use ped’s in combat why not on the field?

  33. abqpacker says: Oct 11, 2013 4:23 PM

Serious question – are teams made aware of these situations prior to the public announcement? Did they know it when they signed Zach Sudfield – or were they just lucky?

  34. grandmastascottay says: Oct 11, 2013 4:24 PM

This solider needs to be dishonorably discharged

  35. ryann252013 says: Oct 11, 2013 4:25 PM

I cant believe it, Kellen Winslow Jr. The jets give you a shot to comeback, show you’re grown up and give another team a reason to actually sign you. In no way do you suck because in my mind you’re a very good tight end and you’ve shown you can produce in this league. But shot after shot you keep on blowing your chances of anyone wanting you because of you’re dumb a** choices and big mouth. Quit complaining about your targets, instead just be proud we’re winning and the young guys are developing under you because for one thing we were the only team interested in you. Eat some humble pie and wake up you jerk. RANT OVER LOL

  43. cardiffgiant11 says: Oct 11, 2013 4:39 PM

So their best tight end is now zach sudfeld, a guy who couldn’t stick it with the severely depleted and in need patriots. Good luck with that.

  57. helix828 says: Oct 11, 2013 5:22 PM

This is a blessing in disguise. Now the Jets don’t have this washed up diva in their rookie quarterback’s ear all the time about being given the ball. He already bitched about it and we aren’t even halfway through.

  58. obmig says: Oct 11, 2013 5:35 PM

There are no excuses because the league produces a list of known good companies/labels but you all do know that some of the things you buy at GNC, Vitamin Shoppe, Nutraplanet, Supplement Warehouse and even Wal-Mart contain USADA/WADA/NFL banned substances right?

kellen is problems central so in a way this comment isn’t about him.
seems dumb to have a player be able to face suspension for something he could get at walmart. how about having a list of ‘noteworthy substances’. for those items players can get them if from a central source (idk, league source?) and their use is published by name for each individual. fans will still be able to call them cheaters and health ‘nuts’ will still be able to put them down for their poor habits. they join the pedfl and agree to face confinement for their careers. that all works so far, right?
10% of their contract $ goes to health insurance and medical treatment
help me with this i know theres an answer in here someplace…
